August 2011 sleevers get in here!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved August 9, so it will be 6 weeks tomorrow. I'm down 36 pounds. Today I had to buy two belts, so I can quit pulling my pants up. I'm not yet ready to buy smaller sizes, and when I do, I plan to buy mostly second hand until I am at my goal weight. I was excited because I was able to buy a "large" belt instead of an "extra large."

I haven't had any problems with eating. I am still on mostly liquid diet with cottage cheese, yogurt and pudding as well. I also drink a lot of Protein shakes.

I am sleeping through the night, and my husband reports that I haven't snored since my surgery. Woohoo! I was very tired after I went back to work. It was about four weeks after my surgery and about the second week back to work. It seems to have corrected itself now.

I take my Vitamins, but the only real exercise that I am getting is walking/dancing/stair climbing. My doctor still doesn't want me to do much more than that since he fixed a hiatail hernia when he did my surgery (spelling of that? I don't know.).

One of the great things -- the weekend of Labor Day my family went camping, and I went tubing for the first time ever. I had a blast, and I wouldn't have done it before because of my body size. I realize I was still pretty big when I went, but I thought to myself that it will change so why not?

The gurgling of my stomach doesn't happen as often as it did. My scars are healing nicely.

My stall seems to be over. Whew wee. I'm down 24lbs since surgery and 77lbs since starting this journey. I can eat anything and have been doing well with getting in all Protein and fluids. I was working out often, but since starting school full time, I'm running out of hours in the day. I'm not too worried as it's mostly out of my hands. I know I'll work out more when I can. Mostly, I feel really really good.

My sugery was 8/26/11. I am currently down 24 pounds! I LOVE My sleeve (Most Days)! I have had several complications but I am on the down hill slope now (thank goodness)! I am doing good with drinking for the most part and getting Protein in by drinking Protein drinks! I still cant eat enough food to get protein yet. I have not gone back yo work yet. Curious how that will go, I am a Pediatric dental assistant

Good Luck to you ALL!!!!

8/15 here. Been pretty much stuck for 3 weeks. Almost a week into mushies and have done fairly well. Did have an incident of sliming (at my cousin's wedding of all places). That was NO fun so I am making every effort to chew til my teeth hurt. I'm kind of afraid to try new things.. I do end up feeling a little yucky sometimes after I eat. I don't get any indication of fullness either...just have to wing it. I'm down only 18#s since surgery...68 all together.

What is sliming?

I was sleeved on August 12, and I've lost 23 lbs (from when last I weighed myself on 9/17). I can eat anything I want now. I know I'm supposed to be watching my carbs, but I'm not doing a good job of limiting them (60g/day on average). I am having difficulty reaching my daily liquid intake, and on most days I can reach my Protein level but it's difficult because Protein drinks make me sick.

My weight loss so far has been good, even with my (relatively) high carb intake. 23 lbs lost is almost 30% of my excess weight from the day of my surgery. Each day I tolerate foods better, so I hope there comes a time when I can tolerate a high protein/low carb diet better. I did Atkins for 9 days before my surgery, and I had an easy time with it (also lost 3 lbs). Protein just is difficult for my sleeve to handle. It's annoying that carbs are so concentrated in foods, while "high protein" foods require a larger intake.

I can't eat much (well, duh). My friends/family love to go out to eat, and I don't want to be an antisocial hermit so I of course go out with them. I have to really actively think about the food I'm eating, because eating is such a social activity. I'm sitting here nibbling on 2 oz of whatever and I take longer than they do to finish off an entire entree! I still mentally want to eat at the same pace as them, so I am training myself to not feel guilty for eating slower and "wasting" their time.

I swim almost daily (while the weather is still OK). It's low impact, but any activity is better than no activity. I plan on stepping up to the elliptical once I am allowed at the 8 weeks post-op point.

I still experience nausea from time to time, usually when I drink or eat too fast. My nausea is accompanied by profuse salivating, and I run to the bathroom to spit it all out. It's really uncomfortable.

Oh, and I'm at Onederland now!!! Not that I had a long way to reach it, but it still feels good to no longer be in the 200's ;)

Sliming...one step worse than foamies... So instead of throwing up the food, a slimey substance comes up instead.. Like a very thick saliva (or clear snot consistency). It's pretty gross.

I was sleeved August 10th and I have lost 30 lbs to date. I lost 15 the first week and 10 the second week. I gained 5 back the 3rd week and I think finally getting over the 3 week stall. I haven't had any problems with eating. I can eat anything. I have tried chicken, fish, turkey burgers, etc. I make sure I chew very well. I do not feel like I am losing very quickly. I do 30 minutes on the eliptical in the morning and walk in the evening. I haven't been recordng my food consistantly however plan to start today as I think I may not be calculating my carb intake correctly.

I wanted to make a suggestion to the folks that indicate they are having trouble getting your Protein in. I use a Ninjia to mix my shakes and use a variety of of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein flavors. In the morning I use the unflavored or vanillia protein in 50% less sugar OJ. (I also add Fiber which is orange flaavored). I blend the powders and liquid. Once mixed well I add ice about a cup. It makes it the consistency of a milk shake or smoothie. In the evening I have another Protein Shake (like dessert) I use the Unjury chocolate splendor and unsweetened almond milk. I mix the same as above and add the ice. I hope this helps.

Cinderella - the almond milk has.about 15 carbs per serving. My doc only allows 30 carbs per day. If you add the carbs from the Unjury, your mix would put me over the carb limit. It sounds delicious, though.

Doing good. Sleeved on th 23rd. I am a slow loser. No real problems with foods as long as I chew and watch my portions. I did have a have horrible motion sickness and an old leg injury was aggrivated--it seems better today so I am hoping to get to the gym tomorrow. I worked out twice last week. 1st time on AMT--I only could last 15 minutes before I got off and headed to the treadmill. :-)

Hi

I was sleeved on August 19th - I have lost a total of 34 lbs,, 18 since surgery (Feels slow). I too get gurgles when I eat and do get a little hungry, but never starving. Thought it was weird that I felt hungry, but I guess not. I am drinking much better and have just started to eat some tuna and Salmon. Haven't tried any chicken or beef yet. How much Protein are you eating at a time?

Lisa B

I wanted to start this to see where the August 2011 sleevers are right now and how you're doing. I was sleeved on the 15th of August and to date no pain and Im eating farely well(not much though yayyyyy!)I have lost about 25 pounds since surgery date, about 45 overall. I still get the stomach gurgles every so often when I do eat now but not like at the beginning. I can drink pretty good now and not having to really sip like before. I drink mainly crystal lite and sugar free sports drinks now. I am eating pretty much all Proteins tuna, chicken, baked fish, etc. I dont get as hungry as I used to but its still there a little. One main difference now is I sleep all night and hadnt been able to do that in years. For the most part Im doing pretty good I think, what about you??

I was sleeved on Aug 22 and am down 24 lbs as of the surgery date and 46 from day one. I felt lousy the first 3 weeks but the day after the 3 week date was a complete turn around for me. I am having trouble eating - nothing tastes good, but no trouble with shakes. I can't seem to get enough liquids either.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
