Reasonably priced Drs in the US for Self payers?

Recommended Posts

I'm probably going to be a self-pay b/c my insurance won't cover it. Am considering going to Mexico, obviously, but can already hear the groans and objections from my family and friends.

Does anyone know of any Drs. in the US that do the surgery for a similar cost to Mexico (i.e. $10k) preferably near or in VA, but I'm willing to travel.

Thanks!

I was considering the Wich Center in Chicago. Last year, I was priced at 12K for everything.

Good luck

REALLY??? My Sister lives in Denver, CO....so I could easily have a place to stay to recover for a few days! Did the $9500 cover all the preop testing and all that?? If so, I"d love to get the Drs. name and number! Thanks!!

Hello Lap Band Community:

I need your HELP? I'm probably going to be a self-pay because my insurance won't cover it. Am considering going to Mexico, obviously, but can already hear my family and friends questions!!!!

Does anyone know of any Drs. in the US that do the surgery for $10K preferably in TEXAS, but I'm willing to travel.

Please give your input. I want this surgery done as soon as possible.

Bet, check out this doctor... www.lapbandrockies.com

He has a package for 9950$ in Denver. I know DrewsLou used him and has wonderful things to say.

From what I have researched, he is a very highly skilled gastrointestinal laproscopic surgeon, but is newer at the LapBAnd surgery. I met with him and thought he seemed very cordial and knowledgable. However I am waiting to hear on my insurance approval through another surgeon.

Monterrey Mexico for 8500 total for everything. You can call tomorrow and be having surgery usually within a week or so. They do the preop 30 min. before surgery. This price includes everything including your food.

www.ready4achange.com, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info MySherriJo.....I did look at Dr. Sanchez, but as I mentioned before, would prefer to stay in the US if possible. I found a Dr. in CO that will do the surgery for only $1k more than what Dr. Sanchez charges, so I think that's worth being able to stay in the US. Looks like you're doing well....Congrats!

I really considered going to Mexico for my surgery - as I am in nursing school and hane no health insurance whatsoever. I would have done it, but a relative who was graciously paying for the surgery, forbid it. I went to a dr in my home town of Shreveport and was really encouraged by his philosophy on follow up care. He knows all of his patients and keeps up with their progress not only physically, but emotionally as well. And it felt good to know if I needed to see him it was only a 5 minute drive from my house.

The total cost (with all pre-op testing and everything), was a little over 20K. However, if you are considering the band and absolutely can not afford that, then I would definetely say go to Mexico (or one of the cheaper places in the US), and then find a support group in your hometown.

Good Luck!:bandit

There are several band doc's in the DFW - Texas area that charge around $15,000. This usually includes a year of fills and follow up care.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
