Am I the only Nevada Sleever??

Recommended Posts

So far you were the only one i see here too. I have a friend rhat just got sleeved with dr. Kosar. And she was telling me about her surgery he does his so diffrent. I went in December and Dr. Sassy did great. He did not put a drain tube. And i had no issues i followed the week by week and now i feel i am doing good. I can not eat much so i have trouble with my callorie in take. I have lost 40 lbs since my surgury. 65 since i started my adventure in july of 2011 with my first appointment. I wish i would of done this sooner.

I hope this is not hi-jacking the thread. Please keep me in mind we can PM. My surgery caused Kozar to change his process. He now only let's the drain stay in for one week and he gives antibiotic as a preventative. Sassy was fantatic in hospital, he has such a great bedside manner! Kozar has been the point person in the practice for sleeve. But, I am happy with my weight loss even though it has really slowed down.

Oops! Dr Sasse is my surgeon, but now I have been told that he is leaving the practice at the end of the month. I don't have my date yet so if I get a date before the end of the month then I will be getting my surgery by him, but if for some reason it takes longer to get approval which pushes my surgery date into September then I have to choose a different surgeon or go through the whole approval process at dr Sasse's new practice! Ugh so frustrated I feel like I have been dropped through the crack!

Mendif,

Dr. Kozar was my surgeon for VSG. All went well, he is the resident expert and was working with Sasse and others to do more sleeves. I did have a complication, I developed an abscess along the drain line. Now Kozar only keeps them in for a few days (mine was 10) and prescribes antibiotic pre surgery. I have lost over 100 lbs, have loved everyone at the practice. Dr. Sasse did my emergency surgery to remove the abscess and has such a great bedside manner...shocking he is leaving.....

Send me a PM if you would like to chat more. You are the first person I have found from Western Bariatric. I am 9 mos post op and loving life!

Stick with it, it is worth it!

So Sorry Netgellous I forgot you :( ...on vacation sitting on the Rogue River :)

Hi Aurora,

Yes I was in the fashion show...blush blush. It was such a wonderful event. I was the show closer :) I was in the black chiffon gown and twirled on the stage and was wearing black gloves? I plan on sharing my experience but, we just got home and I am exhausted! Have you been sleeved or are you working with doctor Kozar? Oh Dr. kozar walked with me in the show's finale' :)

Western Bariatric Center rocks! You will love them all...Diane at the front, Lori the nurse, Cindy a nurse, they have a new..returning nutritionist, Patrick is a nurse...they all are so caring. Darolyn put the show together, she is the Marketing and is super great as well.

What did you think of the show?

I quite enjoyed it. Yes, the dress was lovely and you wore it beautifully. You are sooo thin! How 'bout that!

We are not sleeved yet. My son and I (we are both having it done) expect it to happen in December so we are doing the testing and all that. When we met Darolyn she was quite taken with my son. He is 6'6" and good looking so she is already expecting him to be in the show next year. Fun to look forward to.

I also enjoyed meeting Dr. Kozar at our consult but it was very impressive to see them all on stage and hear something of their histories. Nice to know we are in good hands.

Hello,

It is fun to see other Sleevers who have gone to Western Bariatric in Reno, Nv and to Dr. Kozar. The group of folks at that center is what makes it the BEST! I did have my surgery on November 1, 2011. This past year has been absolutely wonderful. You may find (or not) that as time goes by you are on this forum less and less. I remember in the beginning I was on hour after hour, day after day. Today, I do not participate nearly as much. Because mainly, people who are new, find new things together and really you almost form a unique bond. As time has gone by for me, I have learned more to depend on what I have learned here, making me stronger!

With that said, don't mistake me, things CAN and do happen later down the road. Your body will let you know if you are not right. Night before last, I woke up to my feet/legs cramping. I sat on the edge of the bed trying to stretch them out, did not work. So I got up and walked to the bedroom door, when it felt like my toes had retracted and were pointing straight up, it hurt soooooo bad. I bent down to push them down and that is the last thing I remember until I woke up in my husbands arms with him shaking me and asking if I could hear him. Apparently, I blacked out fell on the bed frame on my back, landed face first on the floor and stopped breathing. Long story short including ambulance and a night in the hospital. I was super stressed at work, did not drink enough Water and did not eat right the day before. The tests confirmed I was dehydrated and my potassium levels were low even though I take potassium twice daily. I have not been eating fruit or vegetables to help sustain the potassium in my body.

Ultimately please find a routine and stick to it. Do not think that at 6 months or 12 months post op, you can go back to your old habits because friends it simply does not work. Take it from me my routine had been working, and I took a step backwards. NEVER again. I love my new life, the way I feel and I will always make sure I am doing what I am supposed to.

Good luck in all you do and your journey.

I am new patient at WBI as well! Been trying to find people from N NV on here for a week! Dr Ganser is my surgeon. Sleeve scheduled for Jan 16 @ 12:30 at St Mary's.

How are y'all doin? I'm getting scared. I was surprised Dr Sassy left practice as I saw him 2 yrs ago about the band and was denied. It's just over two weeks away and I'm scared! I java had some surgeries before and scared scar tissue will pose a problem- love WBI so guess I just need to keep the faith and press on.

How's it goin for you guys now?

Thank you so much for your posts and advise! Do you go to any groups at WBI or speak? I do class on Jan 8th, last one before surgery & really looking forward to it.

I'm afraid I will forget an important question to ask Dr Ganser or something to bring, do or not do! This is a huge step into a better life, but not without risk and I'm finding myself looking more at risk the past few days. All in all I'm doing this!! I will succeed and be a better me, but boy have I been loosing sleep!! Did you do two week liquid only pre-op? Shots in belly?

How long in hospital? St's or Renown? Good , bad? What did you bring? How long in hospital? My insurance says same day I have to go home- Aetna! What was worst part coming home? Did you have pain pump or just Meds? Did they help? Oh my I must sound like a fool- I'm sorry!

This is so wonderful and scary at the same time!!!

Glad you posted! Wow 55 big ones in 10 weeks- you go!!!! That's awesome! Did you have a pain pump if I've Meds? Seems lots of folks have had it. I'm allergic to morphine- and a whimp! Dr Ganser is my doc. St Mary's - what hospital did you use?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
