I'm in las Vegas & just got sleeved on March 2nd by Dr. Soong. It's been a rough few days. I have pain in my left shoulder when I take a deep breath. Hard to drink any fluids because it hurts. Everything has to be warmed to be tolerated. Anyone else have these issues?

Tinkerbell - I was done on Feb 15th and yeah, that all seems pretty normal.

The more you move the less the pain in your shoulder is and it feels like you'll never be able to breath easily again, but you will. It just takes time. You are only 3 days out from something kinda major, it will get better. =) To be perfectly honest I think day two was the absolute worst for me, day three was only slightly better but from then on it went up.

To be perfectly honest warm was always easier for me and even now, in the mornings especially, everything feels a bit tight and warm tea is the first thing I drink for the day just to loosen everything up then I'm hunky dory for the duration.

It will get easier, just remember small small small sips at first. =)

Hi Tinkerbell, I was sleeved on March 2nd by Dr. Atkinson, maybe we were in pre-op class together. I'm struggling too, especially today. I can get down cream of chicken Soup and Powerade and Water. It is taking everything thing I have today to sip.

Hi myvsg2012, maybe we were in the class together... Too funny. How did your surgery go? I know each day gets better but today not only is the shoulder pain still there, but all day I've felt like I have something stuck in the middle of my chest that won't go away... So uncomfortable!! And its still hard getting all the protein/fluids in. Are you going to participate in any of the support groups at the surgical center?

Just do the best you can with getting your liquids down. I was about a week out before able to get it all in. Your body has gone through so much and it takes time to heal. Don't rush it or push it. Just sip sip sip all day.

Thanks Char, I've been struggling with it, so I'm changing my direction today to just let it go and get in what I can get in.

Hello. I was sleeved on the 3/29 by Dr. Bernie Hanna. He has a support group, you may go even if he's not your doctor. I asked for thistimeisit. Next 2 meetings are at desert springs hospital 10 am May 12 and June 9. I think I'm out of town both those days. So maybe I'll meey some of you July 14. You can also google las vegas bariatrics for more dates. Please let me know of any other local groups or sleeve events. I'm thinking a clothing party would be fun!

yep I am definitely in for a Vegas meetup! Whether it be at the support group or a clothing party! I have some 22/24 tops - I am sure I will have more as I keep shrinking!

Hey Net,

I was sleeved in November by Dr. Sassy's associate, Dr. Kozar from the Western Bariatric Center in Reno! I live 3 hours from Reno too. Dr. Sassy did my emergency surgery for an abscess two weeks after Kozar did my sleeve.

You are the first person I have seen on here who went to the same location as me :)

I like everyone there they have been fantastic!

Sandy

I went in December and Dr. Sassy did great. He did not put a drain tube. And i had no issues i followed the week by week and now i feel i am doing good. I can not eat much so i have trouble with my callorie in take. I have lost 40 lbs since my surgury. 65 since i started my adventure in july of 2011 with my first appointment. On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
