Newbie here. Having Sleeve Surgery this week

Recommended Posts

Hi all !! I am so glad I stumbled onto this website. Since I decided to

have the surgery, I have been "google'ing" everything I can. I found this

website and joined today. What a wonderful idea to have all the support a person

needs at this time.

I am 58 yrs old and will be having the vertical

sleeve surgery on Friday Sept 16th. Needless to say I have mixed emotions. First

being so excited that my 5'0" body will soon get rid of most of this weight. I

am now 240lbs now....ugh I know...But also a little scared since it is all

new to me. Reading alot of your stories sure helped ease my mind. Any help you can send my way to make the experience easier I would appreciate.

Not to mention your prayers for Friday will be appreciated also.

Janet

Hi Janet. My surgery was a success. The day after was rough. They did a xray and fortuntely, there were no leaks. Just swelling. Had some nausea throughout the day. Today is better. Each day gets better. I should be going home today. I'm drinking my liquids and I'm off the iv. I'm now taking the pain medicine orally.

Good luck to you on Friday. You will do great. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Lovey, So glad all went well for you. I said my prayers. Thank you for the well wishes. My husband and I go tomorrow down to San Diego (from AZ) and the driver takes us to the hotel in TJ for the night. My surgery is Friday. Mixed emotions which I'm sure everyone here has had. I can't wait to get my life back but also since I usually just go to the hospital to visit others, I'm a little nervous. I appreciate this forum more than I can say. I do have my wonderful husband for support but you all have been wonderful also.

Feel better soon Lovey.....I'm thinking and praying for you

Janet, I know how you feel. This was my first time in the hospital. Luckily, I was at a good facility. I had no complaints. My doctor was great too. This all helps. Just take one day at a time. It will get easier. I know you will do great.

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers. I truly appreciate it. whey bit of prayer and well wishes counts. I will pray for you as well. Please keep me posted. Good luck, Janet!

Hi Janet! I am extra glad to see you on here since we have so much in common! I am 56 and had my surgery 8/31/11. First couple of days were rough, but they kept pain and nausea under excellent control. I was shocked at how well I could walk the hall by that night. My weight was 245 on the day I started my week of liquids and my last weigh in was 218, so I am really glad of that. I have not lost any in several days, but I have no problem with that. I have read enough on here to know this is normal and this too will pass. I had a couple of set backs the last few days and have gone back for fluids twice, so they are going to show up on the scales for a day or so.

I wish for you a smooth, safe surgery. Get home soon and don't think anyone is not telling the the truth when they say to sip, sip, sip! Take your meds and walk!

Kathy

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
