Suffering from major Insomnia! Please Help!

Recommended Posts

Don't know if it is the "answer" but when fasting...I always used to sleep poorly. I would ache, etc. So I think that there is definately a correlation. Obviously, when we used to eat a huge meal, we'd often want to take a nap!

Also, we know that fat cells store hormones...hormones are linked to insomnia, particularly in peri or menopausal women.

My remedy has been exercise. I am sleeping like a log...but I can't exercise after 6pm or I'm so pumped up my body just can't "come down".

5 htp is great too, I take it every night before bed. Not so much for sleep but as an anti-depressant and it also helps with carb cravings.

Melatonin needs to be taken in the right dose, start small. It can give you nightmares if you are taking too high of a dose.

Interesting. I also ached horribly in those first 3 months. I didn't know if that was what was waking me up but it kept me from being able to fall back asleep. 90% of the ache was during the night, not very noticable during the day.

LOL! I just thought I had a lot on my mind. I will have trouble sleeping for 2-3 nights and then crash super early the next night and sleep all the way through. I was having terrible nightmares last week but I think they have passed this week.

Well, another 3 months under my belt (see my first post above) and the insomnia is still the same or even worse.

In another thread another poster mentioned that the doctor got them OFF of B12 supplements because they were getting too much, a Quick Google of the side effects of excess B-12 produced a few sites that said that INSOMNIA and PARANOIA were side effects of overdosing on B12. So I'm off it all together for a while to check if it makes a difference. Seems that excessive B12 overstimulates the Thyroid and can cause psych symptoms. I know I've felt really uneasy for months and can never quite nail down what is wrong.

So I'll try and post back if it makes a difference after a few days. B12 is Water soluble so it flushes out of your system fairly fast.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
