Doctors PISS ME OFF!

Recommended Posts

A friend & co-worker of mine wants to get the sleeve. We were the same size & he see's me shrinking. With my insurance option I could just go & get the sleeve.

His insurance option he needs a Dr to recommend him. As a young man he doe not have family Dr. So he went to a Dr down the street & ask about getting WLS. The Dr told him no because he does not agree with WLS because it was the easy way out.

What a jerk!

Just for THAT reason it has taken me YEARS to finally start down this road. I had many skinny doctors tell me that since i couldn't lose weight i didn't have the discipline needed for WLS. I asked them for help and they gave me low fat diets to follow or under pressure offered me expensive diet programs like an 8 week Medifast type thing.

If I had done this sooner, I would not have the high blood pressure or many of the co-mobidities.

What in the hell is wrong with these people?

Maybe your surgeon could recommend a local doctor who has his/her head screwed on straight.

The same thing happened to me. When I first asked my doctor about surgery, he told me the only reason anyone is fat is because they are lazy and eat like a pig (yes, that was what he really said!). It put me off surgery for about 2 years before I finally went to a new doctor and got the referral. Tell your coworker to keep trying. There are doctors out there who will help.

There are so many people that have such opinions about WLS and it really pisses me off too! Dr. or not!!!

I remember when I first set out to have the surgery. I had asked my pcp and he was all for it. I was having some female issues and went to my obgyn and he wanted to do a test on me, but I weighed 280lbs. He told me to lose 40lb and that when i got there to call him. I told him that I was going to have WLS and he asked me if I was suicidal???????? Seriously, what?????? He said that I would die if I had that done and I was too young to die!! LOL are you kidding me?!?!??!

People are so friggen ignorant! I knew at that point, I would not tell a sole about my surgery, but my husband and I haven't! Some people! UGGGH!!

I am glad that I had a dr. that didn't give me greif about the surgery, but if he would have, I would have just found a dr that would have let me do it. there are lots of dr.'s out there that don't believe in it, but there are lots that do. Tell your friend to find another dr.!

Kelly ;)

Yeah, that pisses me off too. I really hope he finds a new PCP.

I wonder if your friend could call the insurance coordinator of the surgeons office and explain that he doesn't have a pcp and if they could give

him a recommendation of a good pcp in the area who has referred patients to them? Is that considered- acceptable?

We go to a company doctor every year so I told him to get it from him. The company Dr was pleased I had it done. Very good suggestions from the team.

That is just really ignorant. I went into my family doctor and just told her I was getting it done, with or without her approval, infact, I didn't even want her approval, I just wanted to tell he I was getting it done. Tell him to go and find another doctor, if this is what he wants and needs he will keep looking until he finds someone who will give him a yes. I so wish I had started on this path a long time ago, I am not sleeved yet, but my surgery is Monday 9/19. I think just getting started and getting to the seminar was the hardest part, but once I was there, I just couldn't wait to get it done. Good luck to your friend.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
