I am noticing that I am having a side stitch pain on my left side where he took stomach out at. I didn't have that before. I started puree foods about 5 days ago. This didn't start until 3 days ago. Is it related. Or is this just normal pain. No pain anywhere else. Just my left side stomach area. How will I know if I am leaking?

I was sleeved 8/19 and having the same sitch pain. I also had an abcess under my incision in my belly button. That was as big as a cherry and red/swollen as heck. Couldn't even wear clothes over it. I sat with alternating cold and heat then then next morning, while walking around shopping of all things pop! Now it's just a small knot, but still really tender.

all this has me thinking about leaks too! Any help from anyone out there? How do you know when things are going south or you? I'm only a week out of surgery and still having some difficulty with fluids and managing to get about half of my Protein in. No nausia or vomiting though so I think that's good.

As far as leaks go, if you begin to suffer nausea, vomiting or have a fever that is a bad sign and you should get it checked out right away...

I don't know anything about leaks, but I know that I had pain that came and went for 3 1/2 weeks post op. Sometimes the pain was really bad, but then the next day it would be better...then reapeat. I was so glad when that finally ended. I'm now 7 weeks out, and haven't had any pain there for over 3 weeks so it does get better.

I also had surgery on 8/15 and had really bad left side pain over this past weekend. Yesterday it seemed to lighten up. Today I go for my 2 week post op. I hope it gets better for you.

Hi guys! I had my follow up today and she removed the steristrips and stitches and she said the pain in that site will come and go for about 8 weeks. There was no infection and the pain is normal. She advises to start an exercise program and said that I will feel pains come and go for a few week and not to lift anything over 10 pounds. Thats about it! I guess we are all having normal healing pains!

Yes I'm only 3 days out but my husband had his on 6/15 and he said that its normal...and I have blisters for the big bandages over the steristrips ...so I think we will be fine....

My Doc told me that is normal for that site to be the most painful for longest as it had the deepest "Stitches" so a stitch in the side is very fitting here :)

I also had unexplained dull pain under the back left shoulder blade for about 8 weeks. I think it was either pressure from swelling or some type of nerve pain. I never had any complications to speak of so the pain was listed as unexplained.

I had the most intense burning pain on that side. I would lay and cry. I used warm heating pads, they helped a lot. I was going back to work on a Monday and was so worried that I would not be able to work because the pain was so bad. I wake up on Monday and go to work and never have felt the pain there again. I think my body or God wanted to spare me the pain!!! lol. Thankfully! That was at 4 weeks, i dealt with it for a solid 2 weeks. It was horrible but it DOES get better!!! :) I promise! (someone said the same thing to me when I posted about this issue, "I promise it does get better!") Good luck everyone!!!

My surgery was on 8/23 and the amount of pain for the first week was something I wasn't prepared for. I never heard from anyone with VSG before surgery, only RNY. They all said "it was nothing" "no pain", etc. I saw the Dr. yesterday for my post op, and he said VSG will not only have more pain than RNY, but also not be able to move to smooth foods, or pureed foods as fast as RNY. I love the way I'm feeling today, by the way. Also, I haven't even attempted any kind of real food. Just liquids, broth, Water, Protein Shakes (I treat them like my meal and don't drink other liquids with those shakes, and not again for 30 minutes). As sort of a consolation, the doctor said that Lap Band feels the most actual pain after surgery because of the port they have implanted under the skin. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
