I had my sleeve surgery on August 17th with Dr. Hohen in Shawnee Mission, Kansas and am down 14lbs since 08/14. I can't believe how quickly I have lost weight. I am off work until the 29th, but am making sure I am eating right and walking. I had some cottage cheese and a meatball yesterday. Day 7 I can eat deli meats, tuna, etc. Can I eat soft pita bread with hummus? I am trying to figure out what my body is telling me, I don't know when I'm hungry, the only thing I can tell is when my stomach growls, and I don't know if it's just because I'm sore.

Has anyone else experienced the same?

I can't have anything besides yogurt and Clear Liquids until 2 weeks. Then the only bread sort of item I can have are small healthier crackers like a few wheat thins and those are sparingly. At week 9 I can have flatbread. That is the only mention of bread in my plan.

Just follow your docs rules, the stomach does not know what it wants right now... the nerves were cut and you cant always tell whats going on down there. Do not tax the staple line, it will be healing for a while. Time will fly and you will be eating whatever you want soon enough!

wow.. I had mine on the 15th and I am still up 7#s from the IV fluids.. my foot swelling is finally gone this morning. I am shocked you can have food. I am on full liquids for 2 weeks so I find out if i can advance to puree on the 31st.

Yes I tried pita bread at 4 weeks out, and it STILL does not go down well for me now even being 3 months out. I have not had any problems with pita chips though, but I couldn't eat those till I was 6 weeks out.

I figure pita bread and hummus would be healthy, but I'm not even a week out.

Pita bread and hummus are healthy, but not in a raw and healing stomach. You should be able to eat hummus soon though... I ate it a two weeks.

Your surgeon or dietician should have given you a food plan of what foods you can eat and when. Follow that. Otherwise you could end up damaging your new stomach.

I had clear liquids for 2 days after surgery, then 3 weeks of full liquids and pureed foods and am currently on 3 weeks of soft/mushy foods. I won't be able to eat solid foods until at least Aug 29 when I next see my surgeon again. Just make sure you are getting in all of your fluids and then concentrate on getting Protein in. Once you can do those 2 things on a regular basis, then you can move on to incorporating other healthy carbs.

I have a meal plan from day 3-6 of yogurt, unsweetened apple sauce, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc. Day 7-49 is when I can eat tuna, chicken, deli meat, cottage cheese, etc. Of course I am going to follow the doctor's rules, I'm curious to see if everyone has stuck to their plan. I bought hummus, watermelon, crystal light, laughing cow, string, feta and babebel cheeses. Today I had oatmeal for Breakfast, half a Protein Shake for midmeal, a slice of deli meat and a babebel cheese for lunch and I seem to be keeping it down. I'm so impatient, I want it to go away all now! I walked around Sams club shopping today and I am pooped.

I stuck to my plan, and it was HARD for me. One week clear liquids, one week thin liquids, one week thick liquids, and one week purees before beginning soft foods week 5 and anything I could tolerate week 6. I'm seven months out and haven't had a pita chip or any other kind of chip yet; I eat my hummus on cucumber rounds.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
