I am getting concerned about being hungry all the time. I am almost 3 months out from surgery and can now eat too much! On 5/9 I weighed 320 and had surgery on 5/23 and on 8/10 I weighed 263. I went on vacation on 8/10 and on 8/18 I weighed 270 - a 7 pound gain!. During vacation I ate burgers, pizza, Pasta, chips, etc. I can eat large portions, too! And I'm hungry! I can also drink and eat at the same time with no issue. I didn't think we were supposed to be ABLE to do that. I do get uncomfortably full - but not until I've eaten 3 McDoubles from McDonalds and being uncomfortable full is a very familiar feeling. Now all of this crazy junk food eating has only existed for the last 10 days - but I'm finding it hard to put it down now that I know my govenor isn't as strict as I thought. What do I do now? How do I fix this?

I would recommend the 5 day pouch test (google it). Also, eating all the junk typically leads to more hunger.

As for capacity, your anatomy could play a large role in that, or if you are eating/drinking simultaneously that's pretty much making the food go through faster. Pretty much everything you listed are slider foods for the most part. We can drink and eat at the same time, we just aren't supposed to do it.

Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. And, unfortunately, there has to be some personal accountability when it comes to "what' we put in our mouths. I can eat quite a bit of food, nothing near 3 burgers, but I can eat more foods that are sliderish/mushy. Get your focus back on Protein dense foods.

You ain't use'n your tool, man. No, not that one, the NEW one. Drinking and eating doesn't allow the the food to stay in the stomach, so you get hungry again. Stop drinking and eating and you'll lose again.

I am sitting here in total disbelief! After all you had to go through to get the sleeve, I sure hope you learn to use it to help yourself. You have been given some good advice and I sure hope you heed it. I would hate for you to regain your weight. In addition to what they said above, maybe start changing the places you eat, such as Subway instead of burgers, deli sandwich instead of pizza, etc, Good luck and I hope you get a handle on this soon.

First, quit eating at fast food places. You need to change mentality, eat lean meats (turkey, chicken, fish). Swap fruits and vegetables for high calorie items. And agree with other poster, don't drink and eat a lot at same time, just enough if you have to wash it down. Remember you can eat your way out of the surgery, you stomach is still tissue and can expand. Control the food don't let it control you.

Track your calories, that will help you know how much you are eating and will make you more alert to what you are doing to yourself.

Hi Jimmez, sorry you're struggling with hunger. For some people it just doesn't go away. Taking an antacid helps some people with hunger. You'd have to try it for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.

You may still be eligible for part 2 of a duodenal switch (DS). You're already half way there with the VSG. You'd have to really cut down on the carbs with the DS though, ie burger with half or no bun. You malabsorb 80% of the fat you consume with the DS and most DSers do fine with high fat and high Protein diets (a few have to experiment to find an amount of fat consumption that suits them).

If the DS were a path you wanted to go down you'd have to get a reputable surgeon (see www.dsfacts.com). With DS you have to take NUMEROUS supplements (you may be able to get some from your PCP on script) and you'd have to consume >100g protein/day.

If you're interested in the DS you really do have to research as it's not a surgery to be taken lightly.

All the best and I hope you find something that works for you.

Be careful. My aunt had the sleeve done a couple years ago and gained back 15 lbs of her weight lost. She had a barium swallow done to see how her stomach looked, and she's growing a pouch on her sleeve from eating too quickly.

Its up to you to make it work. The food choices and quantities you are eating are not going to make it work. The DS may be your route to go but like it was said above, it is not something to be taken lightly.

I am hungry alot too. I guess some of us just never lose it completely. With that said, certain factors contribute. Do you exercise alot? I exercise atleast 5 days a week and intense so the doc says I am creating some hunger by working out so hard. This journey for me is not as easy as others in the fact that I have to work just as hard as before, work out just as much and watch everything I eat. I read about those who have weight just falling off. Stay focused!! Exercise if you don't, and fill yourself with the most dense Protein you can before all else. I find that cottage cheese and fish fill me the most and the quickest with the smallest amounts so it becomes making the RIGHT choice!! People like us who can still eat everything and in greater quantities just have to work at it more. You didn't go through this process to continue on your old path so change it now while you still can!! Good luck!!

Thanks for the kick in the butt everyone. I am refocusing on the basics. I ate 4 small meals today for 1250 calories (120 grams of protein) and drank 6 bottles of Water. I also walked 2 miles at a sustained heart rate of 130. I guess I thought is was "cured" and freaked when it was so easy to step into old habits. Y'all reminded me that I still have to make a choice to be healthy - the difference is that the choice to make healthy decisions is so much easier with the sleeve than without. I will look into taking the PPI and the Pouch Test looks like a good way to Celebrate the VSG annually on its annivesary. Thanks again.

I am still on full liquids, just started them yesterday so I'm having 1/4c 3 times a day plus my Fluid. I am VERY hungry, not head hunger, actual stomach growling making lots of noise I feel like I'm starving hunger. Is that just because my food is sliding right through my stomach? There is no retention of the food to make me feel full? I will stay full for about 1 hour after eating but that's it. What advice do you all have? Should I have 1/4c of full liquids more than 3 times a day? One of my servings is no more than 25-40 calories depending what I have so it's not like it will be a weight gain issue. Please help.

It should get easier once you get on to mushies as the food is indeed pretty much going straight through.

You're not having many calories at all present, so have more!! Sip as necessary, Soup, yogurt... you must be near fainting!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
