Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I followed my docs plan with slight variation. He wanted 3 meals 2 shakes a at. I did 6 small meals a day. It was the only way I could get enough Protein in. I had a hard time with any shake or Protein Powder made into a shake.

The biggest thing during the losing, no matter how slow you are losing, remembering that it isn't always the number on the scale. Inches and how you feel in your clothes means more.

As for that icky powder... Learning to cook with it helped a great deal

;)

To what do u attribute your long term success? Were you ever an emotional eater? Im also having trouble posting

I was an emotional eater but that seems so far removed from me now. I just don't feel the same way about food anymore. I now can make myself realize that the is another meal just a few short hours away. I've just done a mental shift regarding food. My health is much more important to me now than eating something pleasurable. I'm not saying I never eat bad things, but I can just eat a bite or two of something and be satisfied knowing I'll have it again another time.

Does anyone know if gababentin causes weight gain? I've been trying to lose and I've been eating right, but I have read that medication causes weight gain so I wonder if that's why I'm not losing.

Did you Google the drug and look at the side effects? That's where I would start...

Yeah, I googled it. Some places it listed it high as a side effect and some places didn't list it as a side effect at all.

Thats what I do NOT understand. I struggle harder because im older, have a ton of difficulty with arthritis dont take pain relievers and was just dx'd with piriformis syndrome. OUCH. Wt 197.8. Damn

I have had piriformis syndrome twice in my life once while it was pregnant and now. It sucks, but I find the stretching exercises help a lot. I also sit on a frozen water bottle on my way to work to deeply massage that muscle. I have to add that I also have plantar fasciitis on that same side. Stretch, stretch and more stretching. I know it's from doing interval training on the treadmill but I refuse to stop. I have cut back some and use the elliptical sometimes which puts less stress on those areas. I am just a little over 6 months out from surgery. I started at 360 and currently weigh 226. I am not going to let this derail me. Exercising for me is one if those habits that is easy come and easy go.

Thanks, vanessa, we could be twins in determination and grit. I dont stop either but i do modify. No more tread mill but do elliptical cuz of ankle. And, yes, the stretching DOES help. Im very surprised. Working out 3x/week with trainer does NOT stop this muscle creep from happening. OTOH i did avert very bad cold with zinc, vit c, and umcka. I think the vit.c makes sense since we dont gobble citrus fruits any more. The zinc? I dunno. Usually these colds startbout as upper resp. And develop into bronch asthma. This time, first time, so far no asthma. Still limited stamina but need to wait til april before changing T3 and T4 meds.

No patience here!

I went Ice skating with my boys... A major calorie burn and it doesn't make my foot or my hip hurt. It's a win win!!

I have not worked with a personal trainer but I watch them a lot at the gym I go to. There is not a lot of assistance from them when their clients are doing CV work. When I got piriformis syndrome when I was pregnant the PT said it was from squatting. It started after I was cleaning, painting and preparing a nursery. That muscle is a short pear shaped muscle that sits deep in your hip joint. It's the swelling and spasming that irritates your sciatic nerve and if your one of the unlucky few that the sciatic nerve runs through the muscle instead of under the muscle...ouch. This time it started after the planter fasciitis, which I'm sure did nothing to help my form when I was running. I have started a generalized stretching routine because I am not flexible at all... Been doing that for a few weeks and can already tell such a big difference.

Emma, how much food can you eat at a time? For example how many cups? I'm confused myself, I don't think I've stretched my sleeve but I'm still pretty new, but I read that when they do the vertical sleeve they removed the stretchy part of the stomach, so although you can stretch the stomach I've heard that it would be very hard to stretch it past 2 cups.

What is everyone here think?

I'm going on 6 years and I don't think I could eat 2 cups of anything other than salad. salad chews down to nothing.

Solid Protein - steak or chicken I can eat about 3 oz.

I don't know. All of a sudden I can eat a lot more than I could a few weeks ago. It's not good. I can feel my pants getting tighter. Now I need to more consciously think about how much I'm eating and stop before I'm feeling uncomfortable. I'm almost a year out and have had no problems until now, but I've been hovering at this weight for a few months...and I'm not to my goal yet, so I'm getting a little nervous.

I believe it can cause weight gain in 3-4% of people, but not sure of the amount of weight gain.

Question for all the Post-opers.... First couple months I can imagine your dropping a lot and adjusting to your new tummy. What happens after say 9, 10 12 months? Is your appetite exactly the same as before? This is all assuming you've been following the food guidlines and didn't stretch your stomach out etc....

Stephanie, at 9,10,&12 months I was still eating like 6 months. Matter of fact I was still forgetting to eat all together. Now at over 2 years I don't ever feel hungry but it is now a habit to eat. And it is now an effort to eat right.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
