Sleeved on Monday, home on Wednesday, been sleeping in my recliner ever since. Can't even stretch out in bed it hurts too much. I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into as far as pain. I still would have done it, but oh my goodness. When should I start feeling better? I read on here that some people are going back to work on Day 6. There's no way I could do that! I still have some prescription pain meds left but they're probably not going to last until tomorrow. And I want back in my bed. I am so stiff and crimped up sleeping on this darn recliner. Is this normal? When should the pain go away?

Thanks all.

I'm on day 5 and have been able to walk, lay in my bed, etc. I'm a little more tired than usual but otherwise feeling pretty good. Have you been doing a lot of walking? I think that is what has made me feel better (I recall after my c-section it was the same thing - tons of walking helped the healing process immensely). I'm going back to work on day 8 and don't anticipate any problems. You might want to call your surgeon's office if your pain is that excruciating.

I was wondering if you had surgery in Indianapolis and if so who was your surgeon? I am having surgery on 8/18... nervous and excited :)

I did - I had my surgery at St. V's Bariatric Center of Excellence with Dr. Diaz. It went wonderful! Where are you having your surgery done?

I felt pretty good on Friday and did quite a bit - yesterday I was drained. I did leave the house a few times though - grocery store and small wedding. Planning very little for today, hoping I can get my daughter to go to Wal-Mart later for some meds. I can't tolerate the liquid pain meds, did get the ok today to take chewable children's Tylenol. They also insisted on calling in vicodin pills as well which I guess I will try at night. I have been sleeping in bed, lots of pillows piled around me and behind me. I am ok once I get comfortable but it does take a while. Walking is uncomfortable I think since the tummy is just hanging, pulling on everything. If I am around the house I support it. I can't imagine going back to work yet either and I work from home. I wouldn't be able to get my fluids in sitting at a computer working.

i'm so sorry your not feeling better yet. I also found a lot of walking helped quite a bit...moved and stretched the muscles i was not using and helped me sleep better. I found lots of pillows seems to make it ok to sleep. Might want to just call your MD and see if they have some advise for you to help you over this. good luck!

Do you have an abdominal binder? I left the hospital with a wraparound tight abdominal binder that I can wear as much as I want for my comfort. I don't sleep in it but it's great for when I am walking and moving around the house. If you don't have one from your surgery, you could ask your surgeon's office if you could wrap an ace bandage around?

I am also having mine done at St Vincent... with Dr. Cacucci. Sounds like you are doing well :) Is there anything specfic I should know or be prepared for? Of course I have done the nutrition class and all the pre op testing at this point. But coming from one who just had it done is there anything I should know? I am excited and nervous. I really need to get my nerves under control!

Feeling a little better this evening. I've been walking on my treadmill for about 30 minutes a day and it does help. And those 30 minutes are split into three 10- minute sessions. I'm walking at a pace of 1.5. Tragic huh? Then I do walk outside to get some air and stuff but haven't been to the mall or anything. I'm eating every 3-4 hours too. I know I need to increase my fluids but I'm so sick of Water. I bought some lemonade/tea mixers to add to the water but I'm not using them because I don't think they're caffeine free.

Lots of GasX, chewies, pills, strips; Tums helped me, too. Prilosec or Nexium maybe TWICE a day. Some pain medication, not too much, and you might ask your doctor for a mild tranquilizer to help you sleep. Works for me. Try to walk, that does usually help. My pain goes away a little more day by day. 14 days out now. Good Luck.

Sounds familiar. I'm in to my 4th week after surgery. Doing well, I think. First 2 weeks-lots of bad pain between my shoulder blades. Ugrr....

Painkillers and friendly rub used to help a lot! Nights were, hm... full of lots of pillows, alternating between my bed and my armchair. Only in the 3rd week could I properly and gingerly allowed myself to stretch. Presently, in my 4th week, I can say I feel comfortable in bed. Soreness in my side is almost gone. The biggest problems is tiredness. Very simple task drains me totally. I just feel TIRED all the time. Some of the members suggested that I need to up my intake of carbs. OK. I'll try.

Debbie, it will get better. I promise.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
