How long to feel full?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am probably getting this procedure done and I have a question.. How soon after eating do you begin to feel full? You know how when you eat a meal unbanded it takes like 30 minutes for your brain to notice that you are full once you finish eating?... Just wondering if this is more instant?

Thanks,

Kim

I'm asking because I wonder if you feel full as soon as you finish eating 1/2-1 cup of food or if it takes a while.

Also if you keep eating due to the fullness not being instant, which means too much food for the tummy pouch what happens?

Well Kim, it's kind of a continuum for me. If I eat 1 cup, I'm full as soon as I eat it, then 10 minutes later I'm uncomfortably full. You grow to hate that uncomfortably full feeling as a bandster, so you learn to stop atround 3/4 cup (or whatever your threshold is) when you feel full, but not really full, then you feel really full in about 10 minutes, but you avoid being uncomfortably full.

Make sense? Wink.

I hit full about 3/4 into my meal. I don't have a fill yet so I don't have restriction. For example, yesterday I ate a 1/2 of sandwich with 1/2 of chicken salad. Towards the end, I could feel it on my diaphram. Without a fill it can be tricky. You may hiccup or burp and that is a tell tale sign to stop eating. You will have to eat slower as well so that may help you feel full. This is great. Have a good time with the band. It works.

Thanks so much, this is really good to know, if this is the case I am another step closer to the band!

Thanks for taking the time to help me!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
