Got dehydrated at Sea World

Recommended Posts

So here's something stupid I did the other day. I had surgery exactly a month ago and decided to take my daughter to Sea World. I thought I would be ok b/c there are plenty of benches and some air conditioned places to sit in. I don't know what I was thinking b/c just now I can barely get around the block. However I've been sitting on 380 for 3 weeks and it's been driving me insane. I thought maybe if I got a really good bit of walking in I could break my stall. Well I did break my stall (2 pounds gone for the first time in 3 weeks) but I almost killed myself in the process. By the time we were leaving my heart was racing so fast i thought I was going to have a heart attack. I had to sit down on a bench by the entrance and then I got really scared. I could not breathe at all. I was so hot and I had allowed myself to get dehydrated. Even though I drank Water all day long, I still got dehydrated. I think the problem is that I cannot gulp water down. I can only drink sips of it at a time and it takes a looong time to get water in. I think this was the biggest problem. So there I am about to keel over. They had to get the EMT's, give me oxygen etc. It was very scary. I'm psyched that I broke my stall BUT killing myself in the process wasn't worth it. How do you keep yourselves from getting dehydrated outside when you can only sip water?

I do a lot of hiking and I have a Camelbak. It holds 72 oz. and aside from the weight of the Water is very light. I have worn it to amusement parks, national parks, and long walks around my house, and at the gym. It really works. Hope you are feeling better today.

You definitely got ambitious for being only a month out, and in this heat. You will be able to drink more Water at one time when you get farther out from surgery, but you still have to be careful. I'm 2.5 months out and just noticed the other day that I can handle more water than I could before. But I still cant handle a half a bottle of water or anything like that. I just have to force myself to drink every 5 mins our so when I am walking or doing anything outside. It takes some conscious effort to do this, but its just one of the sacrifices that I have to make to become healthy and loose the weight. Good Luck girl.. and I hope that your feeling better. And next time... remember you JUST HAD SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. you cant do it all right now.

Hi-

I am back to work- and still on verge of dehydration.

I drink at least 64 oz./day

can't get (sorry for the TMI) pee to not be bright yellow, and don't GO while at work...

:(

but my work is warm, always moving- non stop, (I used a pedo and do about 4 miles a day)

Today I drank 48 oz. while working and I started off with 20 oz. shake for Breakfast.

I am seeing my PCF. tomorrow. I think the intake/output has something to do with my dizziness.

so far all tests have revealed I am healthy...

Water can't replace electrolytes...try some propel. That is what my dietician recommended. I hope that you are feeling better soon! This heat is so draining!

It is sooo hot! I got dehydrated when we took the kids to Six Flags this summer. I just would constantly ask for glasses of ice Water (they give them free) and I drank often. The problem I had was that I needed more than the usual amount because of the water loss from sweating. I felt so bad at the end of the day and so my husband got me some Poweraid Zero. I felt much better after drinking that. I would drink the Poweraid Zero when you are out sweating. The electrolytes really do help when you are dehydrated. I am so glad you are ok!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
