Reminder to SIP and not gulp!

Recommended Posts

I was thirsty after a long day of moving furniture into my new place (thankfully, the delivery people did most of the work, but I had some "fine tuning" to do - sliding furniture so I'm not lifting. Anyway, I was rather thirsty, so I get out my trusty bottle of Water and take a drink - like I would have a month ago - just chugging away. Suddenly, my sleeve said "whoa - wait a minute!" Nice tight feeling in the chest, breaking out into another sweat, I stop chugging and wait for the feeling to go away. It doesn't until I go to the bathroom and throw up. It was just water that came back up, but still. Now I feel much better of course. Although I'm sure my sleeve is still upset with me. Lesson learned - I MUST SIP no matter how thirsty I am.

At almost 8 months out I still take normal sized drinks... then have to hold them in my mouth and swallow about a third at a time... sometimes someone wants to talk to me and i have a mouth full of water!unsure.gif

Ouch.....I so wanted to do that yesterday after my bike ride, but I didn't. So glad, I don't like vomiting.

Glad you got moved in and feeling well.

Still unpacking and still need to get a couple of things, but I'm not going to "push myself" to hard. My muscles ache today, so I'm resting more than unpacking. I know it's because I'm not used to being active, but I don't want to injure myself either by doing too much too quickly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
