I had my surgery July 26th. I had 2 big scares but now they seem funny. My doc tends to do all bands one day and all sleeves the next day and all gastric bypasses on another day. My doc had switched my surgery date within one week several times so the idea of getting the wrong surgery had in the late night hours already insinuated itself into my head. The nurse that takes care of you in recovery is not necessarily the one that is in the O.R. . In recovery I told the nurse I was having trouble breathing. I was a little scared about that. She called the anesthesiologist over and said "this lady just had a gastric bypass and she can't breathe." I was still foggy and did not yet have control of my mind or mouth. I shouted " I sure the *%$# did not! I better not have had a gastric bypass." The nurse looked startled for a moment and then said oh right... u had the sleeve. Anesthesiologist remarked that I seemed to be breathing just fine... The first day after they gave me dilaudid and so again I was not thinking clearly. Lab person came in and said he needed to do a blood sugar. OK.. gave him one of my fingers to stick. "Hmm" he said," it is 191." What???? He wanted to know if it was not normally that high. NO! I said I am not diabetic! "Oh" he said you aren't? You should get that checked out." No! I refuse to be diabetic (like anyone has a choice). Turns out they were giving me glucose in the I.V. and he took the blood downstream of that. If I had been thinking clearly I wouldn't have worried all night about it....So 2 days post op I have some incision pain. I am walking around right now like I am a twin to Quasimodo. I know I am supposed to sip but the sugar free Jello seems to slip down so easily. I do not have gas pain but it sounds like a war going on in my guts. It is so loud it embarrassing.

Khy

Thank you for that quick laugh (I almost spit out my tea when you cussed about the gastric bypass!). Glad to hear you're recovering well, and dont have diabetes!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
