Question for those who have had their band out & been sleeved

Recommended Posts

I just found out that I will finally be getting my band out August 23rd (yeah!). At that time, they may or may not be doing the sleeve (doctor won't let me know until he gets in there - may need the sleeve due to erosion/hernias/etc). My question is this - what do you wish you had done before you had your band out and were sleeved? I am just curious - was there anything you wish you had done but didn't? Anything you did but wish you hadn't done? My doctor did not put me on any pre op diet. I was just told to show up to the hospital on August 23rd. I have no instructions at all - either good or bad!

Hi there, well I was instructed to do 7 days very low carb diet. However I did 2 weeks instead and I don't regret doing this one bit. I already went through the "last meal syndrome" before my band. Schucks if I come to find out I didn't miss out on anything! The only thing I couldn't eat anymore was all the good healthy food. Anything junky or bad I had zero issues eating...

The ONLY thing right now that I wish I had done before being sleeved is having found out about this procedure before being banded. However, that's neither here nor there because I didn't know.

Good luck to you!! You're on the right path already simply because you have chosen an excellent WLS option.

I had a revision from band to sleeve done a month ago and I wish that I had the sleeve to begin with. I had so many issues with the band and I am just glad to finally have it out. I had the band removed and the sleeve done all in 1 surgery, no regrets....I love my sleeve!

The band was a waste of time, money and energy. I wish I had the sleeve then, but it wasnt as popular as it is now.

As far as things I wished I had done before my surgery? Well, I pretty much ate everything I thought I would miss. Funny thing is that you can eat all those things again a few months after surgery. You may not eat as much, and some of them may not taste the same. Otherwise, there was nothing on my pre-surgery list. I just wanted the band out and I was looking forward to being past the recovery.

I am so much healthier now, I am just really glad I did it.

Good luck on your surgery and recovery--

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
