Question about hunger after being sleeved

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on June 23rd. And eat about 3-4oz each meal. I have like half a yogurt for snack, or a hard boiled egg. I track everything i eat at myfitnesspal.com and seem to be under 700 calories everyday, and my carbs remail pretty low. My question is, i still seem to be hungy. I am on a PPI, and take it everyday. I read that the ghrelin hormone takes a few weeks / months to be out of your system. So im wondering will i have less hunger as i go along? Im afraid that if i still have this hunger, and our tummys stretch over time, i will eventually gain weight. Anyone ever go through this, and stopped feeling hungry at like 6 months post op or something ( please say yes!) :) thank you

I was always starving before surgery and prayed and prayed that this would be resolved for me post-op. I was so sad when I was still hungry at 7-8 weeks after surgery. I too take a PPI everyday and have for 8 years. I just felt so defeated.

Alot of folks on here talk about false hunger from acid and I mentioned it to my surgeon and he said it was bolonga!! I took it upon my self to get some Prilosec OTC and try it insead of my Nexium. It took about 17 days of taking it befor I noticed a difference, but I seriously can tell a HUGE difference in my hunger now and I have been taking it for about a month now.

I still get hungry, but I am not STARVING all of the time like before. If I go 5-6 hours without eating, my stomach will tell me, but I don't growl all damn day like before.

I got my primary dr. to give me a prescription for the Prilosec because it is cheaper than buying it over the counter and I am now taking it everyday instead of the Nexium. If you can, get some Prilosec and try it. If it works have your surgeon switch you.

Good luck!

Kelly :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
