My name is Eddie. I'm 47 years old from Jacksonville, FL. I had unsucessful Lap-Band four years ago. A year ago I had three strokes due to a vertebral artery dissection. Since then, I have gained an additional 50 pounds above what my Band allowed me to regain. I now tip the scales at a whopping 307 pounds, my highest weight ever. My primary care physician, endocrinologist, neurologist and surgeon are all on board with a revision of my band to either RNY or VSG. The reason I joined this forum is because I am strongly leaning toward VSG (at the recommendation of my surgeon) and would like all the input I can get. After one failed surgery, I want to make sure I'm making the best choice this time. So please, hit me with all the facts and experiences you can!

Welcome! This is one of the best places to find information and get support for whatever stage you are in your journey. I lived in J-ville for the last 10 years, but I am in Tampa now. However, I will still be having my surgery with Dr. Webb at North Florida Surgeons.

You are so not alone here. You might wanna check on the band to sleeve revision forum on this website and maybe look up LilMissDiva and Tiffykins. They are both very successful revisions.

Sweet - Another future sleever from Jax! I'd love to give you input, but I'm playing the waiting game right now. Looking forward to getting everything moving... but sadly, I haven't seen 307 in 10+ years... you're a lightweight :)

Who's doing your surgery?

Thanks to all for the quick responses! Dr. Webb at N FL Surgeons did my Lap Band and will be doing this surgery as well. He also did my husband's Band a few months before mine (yeah, I'm a husband with a husband). He's the Lap Band Poster Child. He lost all his weight in nine months and has kept it off for four+ years while mine failed miserably. So this is my second and probably last chance to lose the weight. That's why I so desperately want to make the right decision.

You seem to be making all the right moves, but it looks like the band failed you. I like reading this post because it says you aren't going to give up and you are still willing to fight! Weight loss surgery is not universal and one size does not fit all.

Woohoo, another Dr. Webb, I am not even joking how ecstatic that makes me! I have read about him from some previous posters at OH and a little on here, but it awesome keep seeing his name come up. I wish you all the best in your decision, and welcome again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
