My hair is falling out...anything I can do?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

My hair is starting to fall out. Any suggestions? I don't remember this happening with the band, but then, I lost much slower with the crap band. Any ideas, greatly appreciated!

My nutritionist had me start on 1000mcg of Biotin everyday to help prevent this problem. I'm still 2 weeks away from surgery so can't say if it will really work.

After having my Thyroid out (due to cancer) I started to loose my hair then after the band it was 10x worse. I have been on Biotin 1000mg EVERY DAY since and THANK GOD I am now only cleaning the drain every 2 weeks instead of every day- It was like going through Chemo therapy- it would come out in clumps. I knew the anesthesia did a lot (not looking forward to that again) but I plan on continuing with the Biotin for life... I also have thick curly hair so I was lucky no one on the outside really noticed but I did. I used to do a scrunchie 2 x around to make a pony tail- Now I can do 4....

My surgeon said there isn't anything that can be done about the hair loss. It will fall out no matter what. It WILL grow back!

AND.............I should think of my Hair loss as a "TROPHY" So, that is what I do everytime a get a handfull!! LOL

Nothing will stop it. I didn't have it with my band either. I lost half of my hair by volume between 3.5-6.5 months post-VSG. It's all grown back in.

And, even studies on Biotin have shown that it doesn't contribute to regrowth in any major degree.

Here's some articles that discuss what is going on.

I am only out two weeks and I can see a change in my hair. I had to go and get it cut because it's limp and lifeless. I have not lost any yet but I'm waiting....I'm half bald already I'm really scared at the prospect of losing even more hair! YIKES!!!

Hello, I did get some new hair growth a few months down the road after using Nioxin Shampoo, conditioner and scalp therapy every time I washed my hair. Also read that Ovation Hair Therapy works the same.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
