Hi all,

My hubby's surgery is a month after mine. He is a poker dealer and he is scheduled to go back to work after two weeks recovery. I'm concerned that he won't be able to get enough liquid ect down during the move from one table to another and at the half hour breaks they give them every 2 to 3 hours. He works a 10 hour nite, four nites a week. We don't think they will let him have a drink at the table during the dealing time.....what do you think....is it impossible???? Thanks, Tracy W.

It's not bad. I went back after a week off. I'm a nurse and I work 10-12 hour shifts and I sip at work sometimes, other times on my breaks I just take my Protein Shakes and have them slowly. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything. It's easy to freak out before hand, but when your belly isn't letting you take in any more than a little bit, you adjust. Good luck!

If he has a medical need to drink, they cannot deny him that. I get the whole air of professionalism needed in his line of work, so while they may not want him to have a drink at his table, they may consider another way of allowing him to sip. The only way he'll know is if he asks. Maybe they'll have someone come take over for a hand or 2 every hour or two? I don't know. It's a tough job to be able to work in the drinking for sure. He should bring it up now and not spring it on them, so they have time to come up with an solution the casino feels is acceptable.

I think it's do-able with a break every 2-3 hours:

Before work/breakfast: 8 oz.

Eat Breakfast

On way to work: 8 oz.

First break (2 hrs in ): 8 oz.

Second break (5 hrs in): Eat lunch

Third Break (7 hrs in) 8 oz.

Off work and on way home: 8 oz.

At home, relaxing before meal: 8 oz.

dinner

After dinner Protein drink with 8 oz. of fluids

Late nite drink: 8 oz.

It's gonna take some effort. I recommend buying the bottled Water in the 8 oz. bottles. It makes it easier to tote and measure them. Also, I do think its a good idea to let the boss know. The biggest issue is eating lunch and getting liquid in. I know for my plan it's not preferred, but maybe have a Protein Drink for lunch. That way you could skip one of the drinks after work and get more hydration mid-day. With 1/2 hr. break to eat and drink, I don't see another way to get both in for lunch.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery after surgery!

Lynda

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
