I put 2lbs on in week3! Could it be my menstrual cycle?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't believe it - 2lbs in week 3!!!

I am on a period but to put weight on after everything is just horrible. Did this happen to anyone else? My sleeve was fitted end of June in the States and so far I had lost 25lbs.

Should I go see my doctor or can it be I'm not eating enough Protein - I didn't get very much advice on eating at the time and I flew back to the Uk a week ago.

Anyone know where I can look up good eating advise?

hello, it seems most people have trouble around the third week. Our periods also mess things up. I'm 8 months out of surgery and for the last 4 months I don't loss any weight two weeks after my period, then i loss for two weeks. Don't worry, your doing great. I try to eat at least 60 grams of Protein and less then 60 grams of good carbs. I don't eat breads, Pasta, etc. mainly because it bothers my stomach. I think you can go down on the board to a food section where you might be able to find more information. Good luck,

Yes, absolutely. I had exactly the same issue. I gained about 3 lbs. on week two or so. I also did get my period. In fact, I am just on week 5 and I've hit a plateau and have had up and down a couple of pounds for the last 3 weeks. Just saw my surgeon yesterday and he said low Protein can do that but also that it is normal since the body is still healing and hormones are adapting. He said it will move again especially if you're doing what you are suppose to be doing. As you are able to eat/drink better you can get your protein in better too. Lots of people on this board have echoed that. So I'm just focused on nutrition, fluids and exercise and, as difficult as it is, I'm trying to let those numbers on the scale go for now. Besides, family keeps seeing me thinner ... so something good is happening :-) Hang in there!

It happened to me to. I went up 3# on week #2 when I was allowed to start eating mushies. I'm eating what I'm supposed to and probably not even enough because my tummy just gets too full. I'm probably not getting enough Protein in just yet- but I lost those 3# and down another 3#. Just try to be patient and stick to your plan.

i tend to not lose the week before my period starts and the week of. so for 2 weeks i lose nothing!! SUCKS!!

however, when i come off of those 2 weeks, i usually lose BIG!! i just keep doing what i know i should and it all evens out!!

I am on week 3 and just got my period. I didn't show a loss at all which is unusual and even went up a half pound. Really pissed me off!! I believe it's the combo of things though like everyone said.

The best advice is to not freak out, and understand that body weight fluctuates. It is SUPPOSED to fluctuate. If you are constantly the same weight, something is not working properly.

3 weeks post-op it's pretty much impossible to gain 2 lbs of fat, unless you have a melted butter IV. And if you're gtaining something other than fat (water & the things your body makes with water) then who cares, right?

Chill. Don't weigh yourself every day. Even better, don't weigh yourself period. :)

BTW, I reliably gain 11# with my period. It comes on 4 - 6 days before it starts, and is generally gone about a week after.

Hi there.

I’m Angela and I was sleeved here in the UK in February.

I was given lots of advice re eating by my dietitian. I’ll add you as a friend and send you a bit of info via a personnel message. Hope it helps.

If you need anymore info, I’ll be glad to help if I can. Just send me a message.

I think our sleeve sisters and brothers in the US are far more fortunate then us when it comes to the different foods available to have post op. I just love wandering round the supermarkets over there and finding maybe 50 versions of an item where here at home we might find about 10 !!!!

I was lucky enough to have my op on the NHS at my local hospital and it is really the best thing I’ve ever done.

Could I ask you why you went all the way to the States for your op ?

Hope the info helps

Angela

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
