I'm am very pleased with surgery. I had my 2 week follow-up on 10/8 and went back to work on 10/9. I just started on puréed foods today and I am feeling pretty close to normal. My only issue has been lactose intolerance. I haven't been to a support group yet--maybe next month.

I'm staring to be glad I had the procedure. I say that while knocking on wood though. I had a leak and many other complications and had to spend almost a month in the hospital , but I have lost 50 of the 100 lbs I wanted to lose in only 2 months , which is great. I am starting to feel like a normal sleeve patient that is two months out and am happy with where I am now . The restriction is good and the cravings have been reduced a lot. I really believe that I will be successful with this tool. I am hoping that going through hell and back to from this surgery will mentally help me keep the weight off.

Sorry if I scared you! But hey, you asked :) Leaks are very rare and apparently I was the first one with the practice. I followed all the rules. It was just a freak thing I think! I can honestly say though that i know i would have just kept getting bigger and bigger without the surgery. You will do great! The surgery really does do what it claims to do , I eat very little and am satisfied.

Hi- I am 2 1/2 months out and I'm very happy with everything. The first week was rough. Once I got to my 5th week of pureed foods I was so sick of soft food :) I started on real food that week and since being on real food, I have felt much better. Just last week I thought wow I am feeling normal again :) I eat way less, I have had nothing disagree with me. If u eat too much u feel it.

But all my clothes are way too big now, I went shopping this morning and I'm a size 20 now from a 24/26... Way happy! I feel smaller and I like it!!!

Ditto to what sleevalious said, I know without surgery I would be the same size or bigger...

You all provide much inspiration and encouragement. Thanks and I hope you continue to feel good and normal -- a thinner normal sounds so good!

Hi, all!

It's been a while since I've been on here (crazy holiday season!), but now that I am settling back into things, I was wondering about support groups. I was sleeved at Howard, and they have a support group, but I always feel like I'm missing something. I'm 36 and single, and I think I've got some different issues than most of the other ladies in the group. Mostly they have issues with husbands and children, different menus, etc. Meanwhile, I'm trying to balance happy hours, late work schedules, the temptation of midnight halfsmokes after dancing, etc. It's hard to be a single sleever! Anyways, are there any other people out there who are having similar problems and know of a more single/young(er) person friendly support group? Or alternately, do you want to start one with me? :)

-Beth

There are a bunch of people in woodbridge I saw on here too. I live in DC. My doc has a support group every third thursday. I think we should start one in DC on a Sunday or Saturday...Avoid the traffic. Does anyone want to meet up?

I'm in the Woodbridge area...we have a great support group the first Thursday of every month. I was sleeved 11/6/12 and have lost 43 lbs. it's a great journey. Good luck to all just starting their journey.

I live in Annapolis. Dr. Gandsas is doing my sleeve at Anne Arundel medical center on march 20. If you look in aahs.org there is a link for a support group that meets monthly in the health science Pav. It's free!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
