Pre-Op Diet day 3

Recommended Posts

Wait!!! 80g of carbs is considered low enough to cause detox symptoms? Wow. It's funny how we all vary. I had to stay below 30 for a while for the dizzy, headache, lethargy thing to happen.

I don't know if I will get detox symptoms with 80 g carbs. This is the 2nd day - and so far so good. It surprises me they aren't concerned that I'm getting that many carbs. But the vast majority of them are coming from the skim milk that they want me to use to mix the Protein drinks. Perhaps that's why they aren't concerned....

I am under 40 carbs and under 600 cals a day. That is probably what is making me feel fuzzy. I guess my surgeon is sadistic!! I went and exchanged some of teh shake things to easier to eat foods today.

I am a midwife and I love it!! It does make mealls hard to plan though. Usually we just eat what there is to eat. I think I wil take a few bars (even though I am only to have one a day) and some Soup that is easy to make. Thanks for teh suggestions! I hope she delivers soon. She was due two days ago :D

For what it's worth, the detox symptoms went away fairly quickly for me. It was only bad for 2 days, then annoying for a few more, but now I feel great most of the time. I have to struggle to get more than 800 calories and I am never hungry unless it's been more than 6 hours since I've eaten. I look at my small plate of food and am satisfied with it, often quite full after I'm done and I'm still pre op. I never would have thought 5 ounces of Protein and some veggies would fill me up, but it does. You'll get through it and start to fell so good that you won't crave bad things all the time.

I feel pretty decent today. I made my little pancakes and have been full for a few hours now. I think I am in ketosis and I noticed a drop on the scale today so it is all worth it! 11 more days! I am hoping my client delivers on a day I am feeling good though

Hi Everyone,

I also started my pre-op diet 6 days ago. I was on vacation, and am now home. I lost 4 pounds, I do feel hungry in the afternoon and evening, but I think I am not eating enough in the morning. We are all so close to starting the next chapter in our lives.

Good Luck Everyone

Well I bought vanilla Protein powder today to try this week along with the others I have. I also got my Decaf coffee, Vitamins and Calcium chews. So I think I'm ready :-)

Hope everyone is doing well with the pre-op diet. Just another week or so and we will be on the other side. I can't wait.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and have been instructed to drink two Protein Shakes and eat a lean cuisine or grilled meat with steamed veggies for dinner. I think the pre-op diet instructions seems to vary widely from doctor to doctor but the intent of the "diet" is the same and that is to shrink our livers to make surgery easier. It really isn't designed to focus on weight oss even though that is a common reaction on the diet. Hang in there guys! We will soon be in the post-op diet phase where weight loss will be easier with our new VSG tools!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
