Tomatoes on Full liquid?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I did a bad thing or not, but this is what I did last night:

I am still on full liquids.< /p>

For the last few days I have been craving my Tomato salad. (I think I am addicted to fresh garden grown tomatoes!) Anyway, yesterday I blended one fresh tomato, one peeled cuke, a bit of fresh onion, a spritz of oil, a sprinkle of vinegar and seasonings. Then I blended it again and a third time. I strained it and sipped on it for about an hour. What a tast sensation!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed every sip!!! :hungry:

Am I going to die and go to Hell?

How far out are you? That would qualify as a puree, which for me was the next step after two weeks of full liquids. The concern there would be with the seeds, but if it was really pureed good and you're close to a couple weeks out, you're probably fine. A lot of surgeons don't allow anything with seeds for several weeks, but some (like mine) give the go-ahead for blending things like strawberries right off the bat. (And then there are surgeons who send people home from the hospital on mushies right away, so.... go figure! lol)

Your concoction sounds yummy, did you have it warm or cold?

I had it cold--just like a fresh Tomato and cucumber summer salad. I can't begin to tell you have the favors just exploded in my mouth!!!! After all those weeks of bland and sweet, the vinegar salad was ambrosia to the Gods!!

I did strain it, so I hope I captured most of the seeds.

I feel fine. It was the consistance of V-8 juice.

My surgeon said that full liquids is defined as anything that will go through a strainer. And V8 juice was on my full liquids menu and I've been drinking it all the time. I think you're fine with that.

Thanx. It was soooooooooooooooooooo frick'n good to have something "vinegary". It was almost better than..... you know! I'm glad I'm not going to die and go to hell--just yet--for eating fresh tomatoes.

Keep in touch,

I know that there was no Protein in it, but it was sooooooooooooooooo refreshing. If I was going to a bar-b-q today, I would take a tumbler of it with me. That's how "summery" it is.

Thank you for the input,

Valentina

Yep, if you strained it, it is a full liquid. Sounds delicious too!

You could mix in some unflavored Protein powder to give it a boost, if you wanted!

I hear ya on the flavors... Tomato Soup was my ambrosia amid all those sweet things during the liquids. :)

I thought of that, but I did not want to ruin the clean, crisp taste of "the summer salad". I ate a greek yogurt about an hour later, so I hope the 18gr of Protein there will forgive me for my indulgence.

Thank you for your input. Everyone's opinion is appreciated.

Ditto. We were told that if it went through a wire mesh strainer, it was full liquid even if it took a bit to drain through.

I actually thought it sounded pretty healthy. The only ?? I had was whether the acid from the Tomato would be okay. But if it went down well, I think you're fine too.

My surgeon doesn't allow tomato's until 4 weeks out due to the acid. As long as it didn't bother you you should be ok.

My doc is one of those that starts us on the soft diet in the hospital and nominally for the first month, transitioning to more real foods as tolerated, with some sane experimenting encouraged - which was fine with me since I was losing tolerance of Soups and Jello fairly quickly. On the other hand, they're very anal about passing leak tests before tranistioning from IV to oral fluids (they didn't even want me swallowing the Water from the ice chips) - something that probably wouldn't be possible with the outpatient VSG model. I wonder if this is a difference between practices that are going at the VSG from a DS perspective (as mine does) as opposed to the guys coming at it from an RNY perspective?

I was sick of the Jello the first night! It just doesn't taste as good as it did pre-op. I don't know why there is such a difference when it comes to post-op diet stages.--and the differences are severe. There's one member here who reports having to be on full liquids for 5 wks. Yikes!

All I can tell you is that my "summer salad" shake was full liquid--if only in my own mind. The flavors just exploded in my mouth!!! Of course I thnk I am addicted to fresh garden tomatoes, so I guess I needed a "fix". Now hopefully I can obstain until next weekend when I can go onto pureed. Then there won't be any question about my 'tomato shake".

Keep in touch, and take care,

My doc has one of the more stringent postop diets I have read - three weeks of thin liquids, another three weeks of full and a slow transition to pureed during that time. Six weeks before any solid food. But even in the thin liquid stage he allows V8 juice thinned with 30% Water. Getting Protein in is important, but it is not the only thing that is important - I think it was a healthy thing to drink.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
