Surgery Tomorrow 6/14

Recommended Posts

After this semi-tortuous 4 week pre-op diet, the last 2 of which was liquid...

I feel like the dog in this video:

I actually leave tonight about midnight to be in San Diego in time to catch the shuttle into TJ.

(not looking forward to the drive back home after.)

I must confess, I have though about cowarding out... oh... I don't know ... maybe 2, 3 ... or 106 times.

But then what? No better option than to go through with it.

Two things are still weighing on my mind:

1. I feel like a jerk leaving my dog home alone. Plenty of food and Water, but no one to look in on her.

2. How am I going to keep track of my bag during testing and surgery? (silly but I can't stop obsessing about it)

FM

PS do they make maple bacon flavored Protein Drinks?

Well Im right behind you with the cowarding out 1000 times. Im scheduled for next friday so I know EXACTLY how you feel, just take a breath and take it one step at a time you will be ok. I am avid dog lover myself but with enough food and Water he/she will be ok . They will lock up your bag so all will be fine there.......good luck and post as soon as you feel up to it so we know you are doing ok...............and lmao on the bacon flavored Protein drinks, if you find some please ship some to me :P

Good luck to you!!

Poor puppy! Don't you have a neighbor that can let her out? That sucks. :(

I am sure they will put your bag under your bed and then transfer it to your room with you.

Poor puppy! Don't you have a neighbor that can let her out? That sucks. :(

She has indoor outdoor access via doggy door.

She has a kiddie pool full of Water and an ice chest full of kibble.

She should be fine as long as I return on schedule.

Good to know about the bag.

My surgery is today too! Good luck to you. I got into TJ earlier this morning and I'm waiting now in my hospital room.

Surgery went well.

They let me go home a day early.

I'll post a more complete report on my experience soon.

Glad I was able to keep the urge to chicken out at bay : )

Thanks again for all the well wishes. They were felt and much appreciated!

So glad that you made it to this side! The first couple of days are rough with the fluids and the general not feeling good, but each day for me was so much better. I am a month out and can drink pretty normally; small gulps instead of large though. And your dog is doing well I assume and probably very excited to see you :)

Congrats to both of you who had surgery this day! Hope to hear from you two that all is fine. For the rest of you who have not had surgery and are struggling with the feelings of backing out,, bargaining is perfectly normal in the mind. This is a huge change you are going through and the mind likes status quo. Just keep telling yourself all will be fine and I want to loose this weight! I kept doing the well maybe I should diet one more time mind game,,, I just kept reminding myself I had a life time of failed diets. Surgery was the only thing that was going to allow me to diet and then keep the weight off!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
