I'm familiar with that area - I work at Yeshiva! Welcome to the group!

I just joined the group today. I'm located in Hudson Heights (that's the A train to 190th St...right next to the Cloisters Museum) in Manhattan.

Hey MThompson!

Welcome to the group, but most importantly, congrats on your sleeve! It seems alot of us are using the same hospital/surgeons. We can def compare notes...We'll be definitely asking lots of questions from those of you who are already sleeved. I'm still trying to get to where you are, keep your fingers crossed for me!

Hey Diane!

Sorry to hear about your complications, but happy to hear you're on your way to Wellville. I hate to be nosey, but would you mind sharing with us what your complications were? It may help some of us pre-ops out in the long run.

Welcome to the group! Boogie Down in the building!

Complications was the surgeon! I had surgery on 6/13 and my family was given a fright by the surgeon when he wanted them to co-sign for me to have a bypass. I never ever in all my contact with the the surgeon or his team mentioned that I wanted a by-pass. The surgeon actually left me on the table, while he made a call to family. You see I went to the hospital all by my lonesome and told family to meet me in about 2 to 3 hours in recovery. It's a good thing they were still at home, otherwise I would be talking about a bypass.

Anyhow. he returns to the operating table and "proceeds" w/ the VSG. I'm in recovery with a nasal gastro tube up my nose and in my stomach to keep "the stomach" from not creating a stricture. Oh, I should tell you the first thing the surgeon tells me is that there were complications: your stomach was too thick, the liver was too large and that because I'm african american he had fear that I was going to form keloids along the staple line. and that he didn't think the surgery was going to work, so i was to prepare myself for the possiblity of having to go into surgery for a bypass ev eventually. I talked about if there was a stricture, would he attempt to open it with a boogie. He replied not an option. So for 5 days, I was laying in the recovery with all of that hanging over my head.

Never heard of anyone with an NG tube.

In the end I asked for a copy of my op report and image report. To date, I have not received a copy of the op report. But the contrast image report was interesting. IT INDICATED THAT THERE WAS ADDITIONAL SUTURING ON MY STOMACH NOT ALONG THE CURVATURE OF THE STOMACH.

In otherwords, the surgeon began a bypass, was corrected. tried to get my family to co-sign for him to do the bypass. when he couldn't reach my family he had to sew back together what he cut and do the the sleeve. Just waiting for the op report to confirm what transpired. but that's pretty much what happened.

Wasn't given an all clear to be able to eat anything until July 1st. Struggled.

My goodness. What an ordeal! I'm sorry you had to go through that, but happy that you didnt end up with an unwanted bypass.

I'm no lawyer, but it sounds as though you may have reason enough to seek a consultation from an attorney about a malpractice suit (if you have complications from the sleeve) since the doctor began to perform the bypass without permission. I would definitely inquire, this doctor sounds a little reckless.

I hope things are going better for you now. Please stay in touch, would love to hear of your progress after all you went through to get your sleeve.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
