I know that right after surgery I will weigh more because of the fluids. How long before that goes away? How long should I wait after my surgery to get on the scale?

I got on the scale five days afer surgery but I was prepared to see a gain from the IV fluids (I didn't.). I think it depends on your temperament--if you are likely to freak out over a gain, then wait longer. Personally, ignoring the scale is partly what got me to the obese state I was in before surgery. Now I weigh myself every morning and chart my weight on Thursdays.

Yeah, agree, whatever you're comfortable with. Me, personally, I'd be weighing right away and then having a mental cheer session every time I went pee for the next 3 days, but I'm a dork that way.

I agree with other posters...how often you weigh in is a personal choice. I only weighed in once a week since I flucuated in weight week by week due to female hormones. I did not want to sabatoge myself, so I thought of it as like a WW weigh in. I was motivated by big losses and more motivated by smaller losses.

Love my sleeve - congrats on your surgery!

I weighed myself one the third day after surgery and pretty much daily from that time forward till just a few weeks ago when I broke past 250 pounds. At this point I weigh weekly on Sunday mornings. You probably shouldn't do this as you can get very discouraged during stalls and weight gains. I know I did. Now I just have a real sense of accomplishment and feel and look really good and consider myself in the home stretch and am not as concerned.

I would wait 1 week, if you can ;)...good things come to those who wait.

I had my husband remove the scale from the bathroom and I will weigh one month out from surgery. I may keep that up for a few months. I don't want to have to deal with fluctuations.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
