Ultra Low Carb?

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery soon and wondering about long term eating after the surgery. I know that Protein must come first for the rest of our lives but do you guys follow an Atkins like ultra low carb diet? I am hoping to be able to have a more balanced diet with no obvious high sugar and less processed foods. But what about Soup or 1/2 sandwich at a panera for example when out with friends. What about oatmeal for Breakfast even if it is just 1/4 cup with some turkey bacon? Thoughts from those who are living and losing after the sleeve would be appreciated!

I only did low carb through my losing stage. It's what worked for me. I can say that I counted carbs religiously, and honestly, I didn't have room for anything other Protein. I did not rely on Protein drinks/shakes for my prescribed 60gr per day so getting in my protein from food was essential. I ate 4 meals per day with each meal consisting of a minimum of 15gr of PROTEIN. (corrected from 15gr of carbs)

In maintenance, I only worry about calories and protein. I eat all carbs as well. I went to panera 2 days ago, and had the chicken cuban panini, ate about half of it minus the ham, and 1/2 of the cup of French Onion Soup. Oh, and I ate about half of the inside of that bread they serve with the soup. Bread is a slider for me at this point so I can eat it without issue.

I eat a super balanced, varied diet in maintenance, and protein only comes first about 85% of the time for me now. I eat my meal by what tastes best, and if that green veggie, or mac-n-cheese or salad tastes better at the moment, I eat that first. I might only get in 2oz of protein for some meals, but other meals are nothing but protein so it evens out.

Thank you Tiffykins! That is exactly what I hope for in my future. I want to have this surgery because I want to live like a normal, healthy person. I can count carbs in the beginning if I need to but want to be a diet free, healthy, balanced, small portion eater for the long term! Sounds like you have achieved this! You are my idol LOL :D

I had to correct my original post. The last sentence that states 15gr of carbs per meal, it should read 15gr of Protein per meal.

I kept my carbs low during the losing stage, but now I eat anything i want.

If I go up a couple of lbs,. it's easy to go back to Protein only and it will come off.

I can't many carbs because they are so filling . I do eat soft tacos, and I can eat one slice of pizza, half a sandwich , etc

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
