Surgery tomorrow and Mom in the hospital

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is tomorrow - which I'm totally psyched about. However, my mom was admitted to a different hospital yesterday (she's in a hospital on the north shore of Long Island, I'll be on the south shore for my surgery), and is also having surgery tomorow (lung aspiration). My father and brother have to choose who to be with during the surgeries... I hate to think that our family is being split in half during a very important time.

Just wanted to vent. I asked my mother if she wanted me to cancel or reschedule, so we could focus on her. And she got mad at me for even asking.

Thank god they put us under for surgery - otherwise I'd spend the whole time worrying about her.

So please - pray for all the craziness in my family to end soon.

WEIRD!!

Two days before my surgery, my mom was admitted to the hospital too!! She just had vertigo and was fine, but at first, they thought it was something much scarier. I live in California and she in Indiana! I thought for sure I was going to have to cancel and go home!!

Pray and everything will turn out for the best!!

Good luck to you and your mom!

Kelly ;)

You will be asleep and so will Mom. Your family regardless of where they are will only be a phone call away. You will be up and around quicker when you realize that the soon your walking about, you will be able to visit Mom.

Does Mom have a pneumonia?? Or an absyss? Aspiration is a relatively simple procedure. You need not fret overly about it. I realize that she is your mom, but she will be in good hand as well as you will be. Have your surgery with peace of mind.

Hey all -- Thanks for all the concern,

I came home yesterday (thursday) and mom came home tonight. Evidently - it's cancer. She is a two time breast cancer survivor (double mastectomy) but they found lesions on her lung wall.

She's on oxygen - I'm on enough post-op meds and CPAPs that we look like we have our own hospital.

Keep up the prayers!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
