Empire BCBS PPO Question?

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the boards and have a question i'm hoping someone can help me with.

After reading the boards for weeks i have finally decided to go through with VSG seeing that so many people have a great success.

My surgeons office advised me that my insurance was extremely good with approvals and gave me the list of qualifications before submitted to insurance that i needed.

They were

1. Nutritionist appointment

2. Endoscopy

3. Psych eval

4. Letter of recommendation from my Primary physician

Last week i finally finished the process and was ready to submit to insurance with a BMI of 41

Today i get a call from my surgeons office saying that the insurance is asking for a letter or proof of any other weight loss programs i have tried. I was on Jenny Craig for a year and so i was able to get a letter from them (the director sent it to me handwritten but on a letter head) stating the dates and the amount of weight i lost in that year.

I found this strange as the office never thought they would ask me for this but the lady that submits to insurance said this may have been because i have no co-morbidities.

What are the chances of me actually getting approved now? I'm afraid my insurance will deny the claim and i feel like my hopes have been shot down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
