EAS myoplex shakes bad + Miracle 2000

Recommended Posts

Two questions,

1. Taking 300 calorie shakes with 42 grams of Protein in them is bad, right? I just realized that drinking these may be counter to why I had the surgery in the first place. I had my surgery on Monday and I'm down seven lbs. already. Pretty scary but I'm getting past the food cravings and wanting food. Today, so far, is the first time I woke up and I don't want pancakes. I even remember passing a sign advertising a hotel's Breakfast buffet here in San Diego. I was looking at the picture thinking... geez, who can eat all of that?

2. Has anyone tried Miracle 2000? I guess I've figured out that I think I know more than the doctors know. My post op sheet clearly says "NO Vitamins until after your first pre-op appointment." Well screw that, why wait? Not only that I was starting to get this furry white coating on my tongue. I figured my mouth was just dry and I was getting dehydrated. I researched on the internet and found that a deficiency in B12 can lead to that. I don't want that. I want to curtail Hair loss as much as possible.

Any thoughts from the pros?

There's usually a reason your doc says no Vitamins til they say so. Some may irritate your staple line or something. As for the shakes, I think they are fine! If you are getting that much Protein this early out, then yay! My shake are about 100 cal and 20 protein ( unjury), so you arent so far. If you like them and can get them down, then I say go for it ( at least til you can start solids)

The white on your tongue can be thrush too. Were you or are you on antiobiotics post op??? That would require medication to get rid of. (kind of a yeast infection in your mouth..ick!) Check with your MD.

The Reason they said no Vitamins this early out is because they are HARD. I had to crush all medication for 2wks some people have to crushit for 6 months. I also was not allowed to take chewable vitamins for 2wks either.

I don't know about the shakes. Mine are 160cal and 30grams of Protein. Except on "it's so hard to eat anything days" when I do a 280 cal shake that has 60 grams of Protein. Double check WHERE those calories are coming from. If they are coming from sugar it's probably not the best choice.

That does seem a bit high in calories- - and probably in carbs too. My doctor sas double digits protein- single digits carbs so that is my rule of thumb.

But seriously- in this first few weeks be happy you can get Protein in. That is how I feel!

Have you tried a Vitamin? I'm a month out and I've yet to keep one down. It's become almost anxiety producing. I think I will really need them eventually but I sit for an hour working up to chewing it up. I've tried 4 different brands. The last time I got 30 minutes out. Was relaxing, went outside to pull some weeks and deposited my lunch and the Vitamin in the flower bed.

My doc said to take them from day 1. I think waiting is a much better idea. I might be able to stomach them better if I hadn't built this pattern.

I think those shakes are fine this early out. Any way to get the Protein in is what you need.

As far as the Vitamins, it won't hurt to wait till your dr clears you. And as for the Vitamins helping with the hair loss, that's an old wives tale. The Hair loss thing is going to happen no matter what you eat or take. Even Biotin won't stop the loss. It will help the hair grow back in, but won't stop it from falling out. Some very few people are lucky and don't get the hair loss, but very few. My mother had the lap band and lost really slowly. Like 70 pounds in 3 years, and she didn't loser her hair, but I hope and pray I don't lose that slowly! smile.gif Good thing, though, it is only temporary.

First of all I love your screen name...I am also a USMC wife and a Teacher. We are in Southern Ca too!

I was sleeved at Balboa. Were you? They say no Vitamins until after post op visit because they want to give you tummy time to heal. I asked them pre surgery.

My tongue looked a little white and I had terrible breath right after surgery for first few weeks...it was a combo of the Protein and no food. I brushed my teeth constantly.

It went away when I moved to mushies.

Good luck to you...do your best to follow the surgeons recommendations I think that is the best way to succeed.

I was sleeved at Balboa too. Dr. Gallus was my surgeon. Its still kind of surreal. I'm like, I can't believe I just walked in, they put me to sleep and I woke up without 7/8's of my stomach. Its like you preload all of this information and then you just forget it.

As for the Miracle 2000, its liquid. It has dang near everything under the sun so I'm hoping I'm not losing on any essentials. I think maybe the shakes are kind of bad. 21 carbs per shake. Yesterday I had two, today only one. I didn't lose any weight yesterday either. I'm like, oh gosh. Please don't tell me I'm stalling this early out and now my dang stomach is gone and I can't do anything about it.

I'm back to craving meat. Sorry for the rambling.

Up the Protein and fats if you're craving things and lower the carbs. Also make sure you're getting all your Water in. I hate the idea of Protein shakes being filled with carbs, sugars and calories and won't drink them. I'm using New whey. 42 grams of Protein, 0 sugars / carbs and 3.5 oz. Tastes like crap, I'm not going to lie to you but at least I can get it down fast and know I'm getting protein in. I'm upping my protein now before surgery to speed the healing / weight loss part. The faster I get the weight off, the faster I'll feel better.

My surgeon was also Dr. Gallus. I think he did an amazing job! For the last 5 months I have not consumed more than 30 grams of Carbs a day. I consume 70 grams a Protein almost everyday. Calories month 2-4 300-600; month 5 800; and now I guess I need to up them again because I have hit my goal. For me (I have PCOS) I knew I had to be very careful with cards and now I don't really miss them at all. I have been very successful with that combo...but I think everyone is different.

Have you emailed the Nut...Eva? She is great about emailing me right away when I have questions.

I am excited to have found someone here who had the same surgeon. Good Luck to you and keep me posted on your progress.

Renee,

One of the girls in our support group mentioned New whey and the dietician that was present said that she did not like it because it has whey collagen along with whey isolate. Something about our bodies can't use the collagen. Just letting you know what I heard. I hate all this conflicting information. I was told by my surgeon to start the chewable Vitamins asap. Now I'm paranoid! I trust him though :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
