Is it necessary to lose weight befor surgary? My doctor didn't tell me anything about that. I'm 95kg and 163 cm. I prefer to lose some weight befor surgery. I have decided to lose some but I can't control emotional eating. How and how much should I lose? Any advise?

My doctor requires a 10 liquid diet.. to shrink your liver but nothing about having to lose weight before the surgery -- i guess cuz if it were easy to lose weight before surgery you would already

I'm not sure I agree. I'd be willing to guess that many of us are expert dieters that yoyo often. I'm trying everything I can to lose weight before surgery and exercising as often as I can. I'm hoping the exercise will help me post op with mobility and healing. Plus, it's become somewhat of a habi,t now that I hope carries over easily that way I won't have the extra lifestyle change to suddenly add on top of my new eating habits.

Also, the more I lose now and less I weigh on DOS, the more quickly I can get to goal or at least a reasonable weight. It cannot happen fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

My dr doesn't require it, I just want to be the healthiest I can be before I go under.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
