I am 4 weeks out and 25 pounds down ((Woot!)) but I am still experiencing pain swallowing. not the initial part of the swallow but when the Water or whatever is about to go into my stomach. Is that normal this far out? Its making it very difficult to get anything in. Also about 4 days ago I started experiencing stabbing stomach pains when my tummy was empty. I thought it was hunger pain so I had a glass of milk and I got nauseous. I have an appointment with my dr on Wed for my 1 month check, so I am going to wait till then to talk to him. Just wondering if this is still normal for where I am post op.

Thanks!!

I'm 4 weeks out today, too, and I still get swallowing pain, especially when I drink something that's very cold or take too big a swallow at once. If you're sipping, and it's warm or room-temp liquid, I would think that would be a problem, but what you describe sounds like what happens to me. I hope it's not uncommon!

Cheers--

Meg

Is it happening every time or just if you take too big of a sip at once? I had issues getting anything down and it increasingly got worse til I ended up in the hospital around 5 or 6 weeks. Mine ended up being a stricture, an odd shape in my sleeve, delayed gastric emptying and they suspect too much inflamation in my sleeve. Some people end up with way more inflammation which makes it difficult to get anything in. My surgeons said they see the swelling start to go down after about the 6-7th week mark and after that point as well as a few scopes to open up the stricture I did see drastic improvements and the pain I get is very occasional now.

I get pains to and turns out it was acid reflux. I wasn't having it come up where I could taste it, but it was further down. So when I would eat I would feel like things weren't going down. I had to start taking a daily prescribed Prilosec. This has helped some but I still have probs time to time especially with meat. Just make sure you are taking small bites and not eating fast. I would talk to your surgeon about it. Also, you may want to be careful with the milk. I developed Lactose Intolerance after the surgery. I take 1500mg of calcium citrate now to make up for it. The milk was getting me really nauseated.

I have experienced the exact same thing!! I thought I must be crazy because my surgeon was clueless and said "Hmm, Ive never heard that before!" Really? Great! He also warned about drinking cold and said It might be causing spasms. Another acquaintance said I must be taking too big of gulps! Well it didn't really matter whether I took a small sip of a gulp it hurt bad! It has gotten better most of the time but seems to get bad again at nite. I had refulx before the surgery and apparently I will continue to have it after the surgery. Like they said; not the kind that comes up in your thoat but painful none the less. I have just heard about strictures and am a little concerned about that if this continues. Now I am experiencing pain in my mid back like I did before I got on my reflux medicine. I take a pepcid complete the in morning and tonight I tood another one due to the back pain. It did help for a little while. I figured and continue to hope that it is merely still inflamation and swelling of the stomach and that it will improve over time. Thanks to this board for making all of this information available. I learn something each time I get on.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
