JennsNewLife 3 Posted May 12, 2011 Hey I'm Jenny. Wife and mother of 2...been overweight FOREVER. I finally decided to have surgery and had my 1st appointment on 5/5/2011...The doctor suggested VSG though I had originally wanted to have lap band. He told me I would not lose the desired amount of weight with the band and suggested the VSG. I am excited! The doctor has ordered me to lose 30 pounds before he will operate so right now I am working on that. I've already had my EKG, Endoscopy, sleep study and blood work. I have sleep apnea, menorraghia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and bad pain in my knees and back. I am sure VSG is going to greatly improve my conditions!! Look forward to meeting others who have over 200 to lose....it's going to be a journey but I am READY!! I also started a blog at http://mynewlifevsg.blogspot.com/ check it out for daily updates

Valentina 2,642 Posted May 12, 2011 How's the pre-op diet going? Are you able to do any exercise? I highly recommend getting into a pool and doing aquatic exercises. I just had a knee replacement and did all of my PT in the pool. I had little pain while in the Water and was able to do more. Think about it. It's working for me. Keep us posted. We really do care! JennsNewLife 3 Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks! I don't really have any axcess to a pool but I hve been walking every morning before it gets too humid. I live in Florida and it's been running in the 90's here. I have been waking for 6 days and eating lots of veggies and some meat. I have cut out sugar and flour. Still getting and error message on my scale
Valentina 2,642 Posted May 12, 2011 If you ask your MD for a script for Aqua Therapy, then your insurance co. with probably pay for you to go to a P.T. center that has a pool. Then call around (if your MD doesn't know) and find one. Also, call some hotel/motels in your area. Sometimes they will let you use their pool for an hour or so a couple of times a week as long as you don't use it on the weekends. Sometimes they want a donation and sometimes not. It's worth a try! Try to remember: Protein, Protein, PROTEIN. It will be with you for the rest of your life. Eat you protein FIRST , then steamed veggies, then a few carbs is you have to. Few the carbs the better. You will do it!! You've already started walking. Walking in that heat can not be easy. I do not do well in heat. I'd rather walk during a snow storm! Keep up the great attitude. It will get you over the top. Keep posting to we can cheer you good days, and "scold" when you need it. --but always with kindness of heart. Valentina Thanks! LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted May 12, 2011 WELCOME Jenny!!! Thanks for sharing your story with us. You will love your sleeve if you are anything like me. It's truly the one best thing I've ever done for myself. You have your work cut out for you, 30 Lbs is a good amount. However I know you can do it! One thing that has worked well for me is walking... that is my fall back workout and as long as I'm doing this, I'm losing weight. Good luck and many blessings on your journey ahead. Read up here as much as you can, and don't be afraid to ask all the questions you can think of!!!
Eureka-C 20 Posted May 13, 2011 I started replacing one meal with a Protein Shake and changing my between meals to high Protein. I then upped it to two meals a day. I started tracking my intake, even though I usually ate about 1600 calories, it helped me get used to paying attention. I also tried lots of protein shake samples. My liver was fatty and soft in June and by my surgery in November it was firm. This is in spite of several binges and setbacks. I kept just plugging away knowing the surgery was just around the corner. You can do it.

Roseib 13 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi. Welcome. I had 235 pounds to lose before my preop diet (2 Weeks-19 pounds) and now have less than 100 to go at 10.5 months out. You are obviously a lot younger than I am (was 62 when had surgery June 29). You should do great! Thst 30 pounds will come off more quickly than you might think. Good to have made behavioral changes now re sugar and white flour. I think it helps post-op to have made that change prior to surgery

Paul11011 372 Posted May 27, 2011 Hi Jenny, Nice to meet you. I know where you are and more exciting for you, know where you're going. When I started my journey I was 492 lbs, that was last fall. I was sleeved Jan 10, 2011 and as I set here now I'm 336lbs. I have lost 120lbs post surgery. I love my sleeve for the opportunity it has provided me to learn how to eat properly. The road is not easy, but it is definitely worth the effort. There is a wealth of knowledge here on this forum so please make sure to ask any question you may have. Welcome.
