I threw away my scale

Recommended Posts

As soon as Nina let me know that I was set in stone for surgery, I threw away my scale! I'm not going to let this be a numbers game with me or torture myself over the needle not moving. I see my Rheumatologist every two months and at that time I'll find out how much I lost. I want to go by how I FEEL and not about numbers, I've always hated math.

Who here is an avid scale watcher and why?

Renee`

All I can say Renee is GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! that was exactely what i was talking about years ago when i first started posting here. . . get rid of that darn demon! It just likes to sabatoge everything you work so hard at. . . i had my surgery on December 29, 2009 and when i got home that was the first thing i did, threw that blasted thing out. . . and i'm glad i did!!!! YOU GO!!! You'll do very well!

I adore all of you! Even though we had some vastly different opinions on here, everyone kinda respectfully stated theirs while acknowledging it wasn't everyone's way, but *their* way. I just want to get all sappy and say "awwwww..group hug!" LOL

Irene, I get it because I had those very same issues in HS and once "cured" I vowed I would never go there again. I've kept that vow (obviously!) but I think the scale may throw me back into that mentality as well.

I may end up changing my mind at some point, who knows but for now I just can't look at a scale and allow it to determine whether or not I'm a failure again. I wanna feel good again, don't we all? So to me, that's the be all and end all of it.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies!

XOXO Renee`

My surgeon warned me not to let the scale determine my success or failure. that being said, they weigh me and calculate my percentile every time I go in....

I do weight every morning... but do not let the number get me down. I log my weekly loss on my calendar, and that helps me to see a bigger picture. I also use other measures... measuring with a tape every two weeks or so... how my cloths feel, how my health feels, how my labs turn out....how much more exercise I can do without getting tired, and how many guys check me out per week!biggrin.gif(just kidding)

I did this mainly for my health, but the "looks" part has been really nice and confidence building.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
