August Band Crew!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I found out yesterday :think that I will have to move my surgery from this Friday to the following Monday, August 7th.

Although I was disapointed... It isn't really all that bad.

Except I have to change my tickers! ha ha!

Anyway just wanted to wish everyone good luck and I cannot wait to hear everyone's stories.

I will keep you all in my prayers for a speedy recovery!

:gluck:

NOW STICK TO THE PRE-OPS... You can do it!:clap2:

It's August! It's August! It's August! That means we're all getting BANDED soon! :D :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Anyone care to join me in a happy dance? :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: Ok, can you tell I'm a bit excited that our month is finally here?! 2 weeks from today for me. Now I'm starting to get nervous, mainly because I'm afraid the surgeon will get in there and for some reason not be able to do the band. Call me paranoid, but I so don't want to have to go through all this only to have it not happen. So I plan to stick to my pre-op liquid diet 100%. Of course with the way I've been eating this week I'm going to be glad to not eat for a while I think.

Good luck to all! Can't wait to hear how everyone who's being banded this week did.

I will be banded on August the 10th by Dr. Ortiz. I had a gastric bypass in 2000 and experienced a staple line disruption in 2002. I am starting aboutn 30 lbs smaller than I did with the RNY. I am ready to move in the right direction again.

Well tomorrow 8/2 is my band day. I have been on Clear Liquids all day. I am starving and have the worst headache. I feel like I could eat the table I am sitting at! Multiply that with the laxatives they gave me to take and it's not been the best day of my life! I will be really glad when tomorrow has come and gone and I can can get on with the banded life with all of you. Please keep us 8/2 banders in your prayers!

Well I have almost made it through my second day of the Optifast drinks, broth, and Water. Today was definitely easier than yesterday, but I am still STARVING.ffice:office" />

I am a little confused about the pre-op Optifast diet though. When my surgeon explained the program to me he said that I could have a little chicken, fish, vegetables and fruits along with the Optifast if I got hungry. Then when I picked up the Optifast, the lady (office staff, not a nurse) told me I could not eat anything due to the possibility of developing gall stones. God knows I don’t want gall stones, but I don’t think my surgeon would have told me I could eat something if it was a danger to my health.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello all your August Bandsters!

Good luck to those of you who had surgery today....may your recovery be painless and smooth.

Really good luck to those of you who have surgery tomorrow. I imagine you'll be pacing the floor tonight. Take heart...all will be well. We're all with you.

I'm on the second day of "full liquids" (only pourable foods) and doing better than I thought. The best thing our nutritionist from the hospital told me was to never let myself get hungry. So as soon as I feel the hunger pangs, I get a shake or broth or something to fill the gap. So far, so good. My husband made me the BEST chicken Soup tonight. The fact that I'm starving probably has something to do with it, lol.

Losin' It....I'd always advise you to go with what your doctor said.

Take care!

Did I already say "me too!". I got a head start on Atkins, but taking it more seriously today!

We're getting banded that same day!! I'm so nervous about flying with nothing to drink. Look for me I'll be the big girl :nervous (ok a little pre-band humor).

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
