Day 2 of Liquid diet and co-workers are eating ribs

Recommended Posts

Today is the 2nd day of my 10 day liquid diet before my suregery, May 5th. I know it has to be done, I am not even fighting it. I know if I shrink up my liver before hand, my scar will be smaller, and my surgeon will have an easier time and hopefully less pain. It is no brainer, yes it will be tough, but I quit smoking 4 years ago and that was a lot worse.

But I seriously just need to vent, the WHOLE office smells like smoked BBQ ribs, I can hear my co-workers chewing on the bones and moaning how good they taste. I don't even like ribs, but they sure sound good compared to this watered down Tomato Soup I am eating!!!!! Did I also mention, my hand to God, there is a bake sale going on all day to help those in Japan. I kid you not, Cookies, brownies, bunt cakes, fudge, ect!!!!! If I go to the ice machine, I can see the baked goods, sigh...

OK, I am done whining, only 8 more days to go...

funny this is truely funny. I know that it is not to you. Your will power will be tested my friends every day and the closer to surgery you will be tested even more.. I truely know your pain. My sister in law got snowed out of her house ,and had to stay at our house and she ate non-stop.. First she ate two plates of food, then choclate cover raisens, then fiddle faddle, then cheese nips, then ice cream..OMG I was ready to get my gun out and shoot her. The only thing I got that night was mmm sooo good chicken broth. I was soo glad when the snow stop falling.. Donuts were my temptation at work. It seemed like everyone brought donuts all that week..geeez You have to put all that behind you and keep on trucking forward. When you get tempted always remember what you are doing this for and walk away. You will make it I promise you!!!

I only had to do one day of Clear Liquids. The two weeks leading into my surgery I had to do low fat, NO CARBS. I never could have done two weeks of liquids prior to the surgery but now that I am post op, liquids aren't that bad.......hang in there. I think your MD may be overly cautious with the liquids so long before the surgery.

Funny...keep the goal in sight! Fight those urges and you will be glad you did when you look in the mirror in a few months.

Stay strong,

it's amazing what we find tempting when we can't it eat. I told my coworkers over and over to stop offering me food, it took them a while but they did. the first few days when i was doing the diet i wouldn't eat with them... once i was more stable i found myself able to sit with them most of the time... keep strong, you can do it.

I had to do a low carb pre op diet of one week so not as bad as your 2 week liquid diet. After surgery I would call my folks to talk to them and they would start describing the food they were eating and would make lip smacking yummy sounds. I had to tell them to stop it. Its almost like if you have a sore arm someone is going to come up and smack that arm kind of thing.

Keep positive and you will have started you journey downwards from the pre op diet. So that is a bonus!

LOL that is funny... during week 2 after my surgery, i was asking my friend what he ate cuz I was living vicariously through him :) and the funny thing was, it didn't sound appetizing!!

Wow I really feel for ya, but at least its only 10 days. I havn't started my pre op diet yet, but my doc says that I have to do the diet for 4 to 6 weeks because of my size.I'm also a smoker so I'll be dealing with that too. I'm already cringing at the thought. lol But like a few others have stated, it will be worth it in the end. It's the begining of a life changing journry. Just keep a good attitude and you will do great! Good luck with everything.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
