5 weeks post op - 18 years old

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on march 15 and have lost 28 lbs. I just turned 18 in January so as a teen this has been an emotional and physical challenge for me. Everyday gets easier and every pound I loose makes it totally worth it. Im on soft foods now and have been eating alot of refried Beans and cheese, egg whites, and turkey and laughing cow cheese. My taste buds have changed so much and I don't have as much as a craving for food like I used to. I'm getting bored of just those things and feel like there's alot more food I can be eating but I just don't know what. I'm currently in culinary school so cooking and baking isn't a problem for me. If anyone knows any good recipes allowed during the soft phase I'd really appreciate it. Especially anything with Tomato sauce haha that's been my number one craving! Also I've been having problems with getting enough liquid down. I only get about 20 oz in on a good day. My skins so dry lately and I know it's because of my lack of Water intake but if anyone knows of a good face moisturizer let me know!! Thanks for reading and please respond! And congratulations to the rest of you sleeve patients!!

Congratuations to you!

I know ou will get good recipes- I don;t have them yet as I am not yet sleeved.

However I want to urge you to really push that water- more than a few have ended up in the hospital with dehydration- and you really need that Water to help burn fat and metabolize all that Protein. Take heed from Mama Meggie!

Congratulations! You are doing great!

for lots of recipes you can go to http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com - shelly had rny surgery 6 yrs ago and has a wealth of info, suggested products, WLS friendly yummy recipes and MORE! I love reading her blog, she's a great source of info and inspiration.

for your Tomato sauce cravings, here is a WLS recipe from Shelly that should help with your craving :

Shelly's Baked Ricotta

8 oz of Ricotta cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan

1 large Egg, beaten

1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

salt & pepper to taste

1/2 cup Marinara Sauce

1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave.

Congrats on your weight loss!!!! I bet that is a great feeling to be insulin free! Do you feel that being younger helped you heal faster? I know that when I went in for my post op check up my doctor was surprised at how fast my scars had healed (23 yrs old by the way) and I honestly don't feel young anymore. Have you tried sugar free koolaid? It comes in single packages and you put it in your Water, they are 5 calories a piece. My doc recommended them, and they are really good. It helped me increase my water intake.

I use Olay Rx cream- works wonders! I think Nieva Soft- for face body and hands- is great too- and you can get both at walmart- I even carry the Nieva small tube in my purse.

I"ve been using Olay products since I was a kid (thanks mom) and it keeps my skin so soft, and so far no wrinkles...at 33! I agree with visiting Eggface's blog, it's awesome so many ideas!! I also have trouble getting all my fluids in, so I usually add lime or lemon slices to my Water and that helps. Also just found 'Skinny Water' at Safeway, tastes life Sobe Life Water but without all the carbs. ;o) Good Luck on your journey, keep up the great work!

Try drinking more and eating less. I know I eat less when I get all my fluids in. I drink 20oz of Protein drink, then at least another 20oz of crystal light or Vitamin Water. After I do that then I'll let myself eat something like applesauce or whatever.

Baked ricotta

Used a container of fat free ricotta cheese, a container of sugar free Pasta sauce, one egg, italian spices, and some parm cheese. Mix it all together and put in a pan and put some shredded cheese on top and bake until bubbly. It's yumtastic

I'm not sure about the food yet, but as far as skin care goes, I use Cetaphil. Its a great great product. My Mom's doctor recomended it to her when she was doing chemo and her skin dried out so much and it worked wonders. I have been using it ever since and love it. Good Luck on your journey! You will do wonderfully!

Thank you everyone for your helpful and positive responses. @candaceshenea Being younger probably helped the healing process faster. My wounds were closed within like 3 weeks after surgery but also with being young I felt like i was a baby when it came to pain! Along with being young I'm hoping my skin will bounce back and hold tight because thats a big worry in the back of my head. I haven't tried sugar free koolaid but all I drink is Vitamin Water Zero. It's the best!!!

I've also been putting Mederma on my scars and hopefully that will make them go away as time goes on!

Thank you!!!

I was having the same trouble with getting my fluids at my 3 week mark. I turned to sugar free popsicles and making slushies with fruit juice.. just to get something different.. Propell fitness Water is wonderful also (frozen too)..

Good luck and Congrats on your loss so far!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
