I'm only a week and a half out from surgery and I've already decided to get rid of the scale! I have lost 10 pounds and I just don't feel like I'm losing anymore!! I got excited a few days ago cuz I though I lost 14pounds, but no, it was a fluke with my scale :( I eat a fourth of a cup of pureed Soup or Beans or cottage chees for meals and sip Water all day, and I feel like it's for nothing! Isn't the weight suppose to just fall off right now?? I feel like I wasted my money on this surgery!

Sounds to me like you are not eating enough. Just 1/4 cup for each meal and Water? Are you getting Proteins in from supplement? If you are not getting enough nutrition and calories, your body will hang onto every thing it has to stay alive. Certainly it sounds like you need more Protein and mostly likely more calories. Keep track of your intake to make sure you are getting enough nutrition. Keep us posted. By the way, I am one week out from surgery today and still on Clear liquids...can't wait until I can chew on something!!! 10 lbs in a week and a half...I'll be thrilled if I've lost 10 lbs when I go back to work on Monday and weigh myself (no scales at home; work in a clinic where there are scales in every room!!)

It looks like you lost some weight pre op. My doctor said the first 30 pounds were the easiest. After that it gets harder. Looks like you may be in the same boat. I lost 12 pounds total in the first two weeks and nothing in week three. I was ready for the 3 week stall and didn't get freaked out. I keep looking at 42 pound total loss and am feeling better than before surgery.

Stick with the program and it will come off!

I also have a Protein Shake each day. The lady couple of days I got 26 and 29 grams of Protein. I thought that was pretty good for just a week and a half out from surgery but maybe it's not?? I'm trying to increase it everyday as I can.

7 days out? The first week your body is still trying to get rid of all the Water it took on during the IV and surgery. Try to put the scale away and only weigh once a week at the most. It is impossible to gain with the small portions we eat - especially in the beginning. You didn't waste your money - it takes time to lose the weight and everyone goes at their own pace. Make sure you treat your new tummy gently and get all your liquid in.

My weight loss was really slow and still kind of is. i think a portion of it, is that we are all different. I would get frustrated in the beginning cuz some of the people on here were losing at a tremendous rate, and i was kinda poking along. I am back on Proteins again to give myself another boost. I know that I need to keep track of my eating too, it will help you to do that. Congrats on your surgery, and good luck to you. hang in there! its all well worth it! And we all just move at our own pace. :-)

You've just put your body through major surgery, it will be in shock at this stage and need the time to heal. Take a deep breath, put the scale away (seriously, stepping onto the scale every day will only add frustration because at some point you WILL most likely stall - that's normal!), stick to your surgeons dietary plan and the weight will come off. And the best part; once it's off it will not come back again!

I'm six months out and I know first couple of weeks can be both hard and frustrating, but please take the advice from others and try to relax about the process. It took us all a while to pile the weight on, it will take some time to take it off as well. Best wishes and good luck!

Thanks everyone for all the responses and support! I've put the scale away and I'm just not going to focus on it. I'm going to keep doing what my doctor told me to do and not worry about it! I feel great and that's the most important thing!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
