only 20 pounds lost since surgery!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 1/18...and I have only lost 20 pounds in 3 months! I don't overeat, I workout, and I get most of my fluids in most days....has anyone experienced this type of slow weight loss? Im starting to feel like I have failed the sleeve.I was only 194 pre op but I still expected more weight loss than this. Please help. Oh I think Protein maybe one of my issues, as I'm only getting about 40 grams a day

Could you provide more information about your surgical circumstances/ Where did you get it done? Have you had consultations with a nutritionist? Have you had post-op consultations? have you attended post op group support meetings?

Also what does your diet consist of? Perhaps you are not over-eating but the problem may be in what you are eating more than how much.

This could help us better understand where you're coming from.

I'm not sure what your goal weight is, however, given the fact that you were at 194 to start with, you likely have about 50 lbs. excess weight to lose, if your goal is around 140 lbs you've already lost more than 50% of your excess weight over the past three months! That's amazing and fantastic!!!! Keep in mind that because you don't have as much excess weight to shed, that your weight loss is likely to be slower than those who have a lot more to lose. With that said, I have seen TONS of people with similar weight loss goals that meet and exceed their goals within the first 6 months. Give yourself time! For what it's worth, I think that you're doing FABULOUS considering the circumstances! Keep it up and you'll be at goal before you know it! smile.gif

Those with more to lose, lose faster sometimes with bigger numbers.

Since you only had minimum to lose, it will take longer.

A loss is still a loss though. So ROCK YOUR SLEEVE <3

I agree with the others... you were a 'light weight' and now you are a 'LIGHTER weight'!!!!

20lb is a significant amount of weight to lose and would have already afforded you many health benefits.

Try to stay positive and remember to get as much Protein in as possible... aim for a little higher, say 60-70g... drink plenty of Water and continue with your exercise!

You're doing great so far... chin up and keep up the good work! =]

Consider the percentages...at 20 lbs you have lost more than 10% of your body weight. If I were to lose 20 lbs it would only be less than 6% of my body weight. :nonod:

mbridge, don't worry too much. You were already a light weight when you were sleeved so naturally being closer to your ideal weight it's going to come off much slower than say someone who needs to lose hundreds of pounds. You're down 20 Lbs FOREVER!! Would this be the case should you have not had the sleeve? Something tells me the answer to that is "no".

Stress can also help you hold onto weight, consider that as well as you continue your weight loss journey. Stay positive and keep doing all the right things. Some folks just are slower at losing weight. I personally don't see a bad side to this. As long as you have changed your habits to health then you are doing fine. The chips (no pun intended) will fall where they may.

Blessings!!

@lilmissdiva...thanks, I have been stressed a lot about bills. I recently loss my job, and financial worries have had me stressed out. I started a new job last week so hopefully things will get better. so I think I will blame some of my slow weight loss on bills

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
