In Sept 03 I was banded I weighed

262 within 9 mos I was down 70lbs with no fill, my doctor was thrilled

I wanted more I started running and took on a very strenous job, then

I wanted a fill. There truly was no need for it I may have hit a

plateua but who knows. I started vomiting 3 times a day then found out

I was pregnant so no upper gi could be done. I vomited for 18 mos 3 to

4 times a day. Life was hell I hated my husband for enjoying the food

I cooked knowing that I would be in pain from just taking a bite.

Finally after moving to a new state and not being able to find a

bariactric to see me my old dr found me Dr Needleman at OSU. I cried

in his office the 2nd time I saw him I didnt have the energy to lift

my son yet I weighed 255 lbs. He had tried a egd and it hadnt worked

so on June 22nd he went in, I wanted it GONE!!! When I awoke the first

thing i remember is crying 'is it still there', It was.... I found

out that I had an ulcer right beneath the band which had also slipped.

Everytime I ate the band held true to my pouch and beared down on my

ulcer. Relief only came when the pouch again was empty and as quickly

as possible. So here I am starting over are my odds shot???

Oh no, you will do just fine!! If it's all fixed up and your ulcer is taken care of, you'll be feeling great and skinny again soon.

I'm so sorry about what you went through :) So it wasn't really having a fill that was the real problem; it was the ulcer and a slip?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
