still not feeling well

Recommended Posts

I am at 10 days out of VSG surgery and 8 days out of an ulcer repair surgery, and I still feel kinda bad. I have been running low grade temps., but thought I was done with that as of yesterday. Well tonite I have hit 100 degrees. I have taken my tylenol and yes I plan on going to the doc first thing in the morning. My questions is......Has anyone else been through this?

My stomach still feels sore on the inside and even my back hurts on my left side. Any comparisons would be appriciated.

You know I think one of the problems for all of us is that there is no one way to respond to this surgery! Some people sail through with little pain, and are bopping around in no time- others are really lid low for a while and are much slower to move forward. Some can drink fluids etc. with o problem, others really have trouble getting the fluids in for the first few weeks or longer.

However- I think fever is a warning sign and you are right to see your doctor. Just today our daily poster Crosswind was found to have a double ear infection 19 days out- she had felt wonky and had also had a low fever now and again.

Awww, I was thinking about you and was about to send you a message when I saw your post. I think you are doing the right thing by going and getting checked out in the morn. I do agree we all heal diff at diff rates so hopefully that is all it is. As for comparison, I too have back pain that comes and goes. I even get little twinges in my lower left side. I think it will really take a good month before we are back closer to what was normal for us. But please do see a doc because a fever is a sign of infection sometimes and the sooner they catch it the easier it will be to deal with.

surgery was tues April 12 have good and bad days. i'm sure like everyone else. I have not done well with the liquids and Protein drinks, still have some pain, but mostly discomfort from the gases

i agree call the dr in the am, low grade fevers usually mean you are trying to fight something

keep us posted, we'll be thinking of you

good luck

I agree you should see your doc. But I will say that when I left the hospital the nurses stressed that my temp would be up and as long as it wasn't above 100.5 I was okay. They said surgery causes a low grade temp. My temp has been 99 or 100 since my surgery last Monday too. I see the doc today too for my routine follow up.

Hope all is well with you. 10 days out isn't that long especially for two surgeries!

I had my surgery last Monday and haven't had any fevers but the pain in my back on both sides is killing me. I'll take the surgery pain and the drain anyday if this pain would go away. Please see your Dr and take care of yourself. Let yourself heal and keep up the good work.

Sorry you're feeling bad but considering it was a 2 in 1 surgery it may be natural. Good idea on calling your dr. I hope you feel better soon!!

No one ever really spoke of pain when I was researching information before my surgery. All I heard was that everyone loved their sleeve, and they were back to work in a few days, and even some were shopping right after surgery...so I was hit HARD after my surgery. I couldn't drink, eat, woke up in PAIN, Constipation, the sliming issue, it was a rude awakening for me.

I really think if you expect the worse, it's better. At least you will be prepared.

Hoping you feel better soon :)

You should absolutely call your doctor if you're concerned. Referring pain to your left shoulder could be a leak starting because that is where stomach pain refers to, but while you are CALLING YOUR DOCTOR I wouldn't be too worried. My back hurts because I'm not using my ab muscles, because I'm babying my stomach. I'm afraid to let a stiff wind blow on my left upper abs so I'm carrying my body all twisty. And a lowgrade fever is only medically significant over 101. 5 -- according to my surgeon anyway.

From what I've read from leaky sleevesters, there was no mistaking what they were feeling for some otther milder problem. They felt like HELL. I felt sick, tired and rotten for about ten days too -- then I only felt semi-rotten and then I got an ear infection.

:) You sound kind kind of like I did the first ten days and I'm pretty much okay so far. But...I'm just a chick on the internet so read this post while the phone is ringing as you CALL YOUR DOCTOR.

Oh, Goofyspice, I am so sorry to hear about the pain you are in. I got hit pretty hard with pain yesterday but had been doing pretty good up to that point. Plus, I developed Thrombosis in my left arm. Other then that mostly off pain meds but still take them now and then if it gets bad. And Jen Jen, I hope you are feeling better soon. I am happy to see people posting complications because people should know this is not a walk in the park. I do feel terribly bad for the people that are having complications though.

Verdict is I have double pneumonia. So here I sit in the hospital once again. Tests, tests, tests, and more tests. Ugh !!!! Doctor said maybe 3 days and I will be good. But I am thankful to be here and under the care I need to get healthy again. So ready to enjoy life again.

Thanks for all of the imputs and as I have realized, when something doesn't feel right, go get it checked out.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
