I am very slow and don't understand Prilosec.

Recommended Posts

I ate all the Nexium mups the doctor gave me in Mexicali and I am now using Prilosec caplets. I made a mistake the first time and bought the tablets -- what on earth difference would it make to them that they would make both? Anyway, so the instructions are to eat this stuff sprinkled on apple sauce. Dutifully. I cut open a caplet and pour the fairy dust into two ounces of organic apple sauce but the problem is that *half* of what comes out of it is a TABLET and not a sprinkle. Now I don't know what to do. Is it a tablet because the real medicine is in the sprinkle so they're trying to weigh it down? Why would they make a caplet with a tablet INSIDE it? Do I eat the table, crush it up, dissolve in Water, discard?

I purchased extra Nexium Mups when I was in Mexicali. I have 4 unopened boxes, if you are interested in getting these, I would just like to be reimbursed what I paid. PM me.....

:) Thanks for the offer. I'd rather learn how to operate these. I'm wondering if they're defective or if I'm missing something essential here....

I'm unfamiliar with the MUPS version but here is what I found on Google

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Tablets should be swallowed with liquid. They should not be chewed or crushed. Patients with difficulty swallowing may also disperse the tablets in half a glass of carbonated Water.

Do not use other liquids as the enteric coating could be dissolved. shake until the tablet to disintegrate and drink the liquid with the pellets immediately or within a period not exceeding 30 minutes. Rinse the glass with half a glass of water and drink. The granules should not be chewed or crushed.

Are you sure you are using these as directed? It sounds like you are to swallow the inner caplet whole unless you dissolve it in water.

Thanks Rootman. I am apparently not using them as directed except I am trying to follow the directions from the surgeons office.

What did you do for your ppi? Just swallow a pill?

The reason there is a tablet inside is because it is time released. When you take the capsule, the crystals dissolve quicker and work quicker, while the little tablet takes longer to dissolve and thus to absorb. That is how it lasts 24 hours. Doing it the way you are you are not going to get 24 hours of relief. You did not say how far out from surgery you are. As soon as ok'd it is best to just take the capsule whole to get the 24 hour coverage.

I'm seventeen days out. I think I'm supposed to wait at least a month to swallow a pill. I know they sell the mups thingies by prescription but that means I have to go to the uninsured clinic and explain to them that I've just had weight loss surgery, which I doubt will go over well.

I took Prilosec at about 10 days out and had no problems, the diameter is small and your swelling should have gone down enough so that it won't hurt. I take Synthroid too and that had to start almost immediately post-op so I started swallowing pills 5 days out from surgery.

I've been taking all my tablets since right after surgery, they gave me tablets in hospital (not everything, but some of them). The stupid anti-gallstone tablet is friggin huge, but I have to swallow two of those a day. <_< If I were you, I would just swallow the whole med. But IANAD. :D

Yeah, look around the forum and you'll see all kinds of daffy ideas come from Drs AND patients

I just swallow the capsule whole, as another has said it's small and doesn't do any harm to the stomach. Speaking of pills, the pain reliever they sent me home with was about 1/2 inch in diameter and DID cause a little nausea and a few cramps for a few minutes. I should of split it and swallowed in 2 parts but nooo, I had to be a "man" and take it whole.

Hmmmm. Thanks all. Guess I'll try a full caplet tomorrow.

I have no insurance. My real goal here is -- that sleeve came out beautiful and nothing is wrecking it if I can help it. I'd drink Isostupid for a year if that's what it took.

Clever pharmacists! I would sprinkle the fairy dust on apple sauce, and swallow the cap. That should at least make it a little easier to get down. I get a chewable prescribed, but the Omeprazole I got OTC before surgery was a tiny pill and prob easy to swallow. You could probably get advice from your local pharmacist for free.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
