Ha Ha, I adore you for saying this "come to think of it I just am not a big fan of eating anything with a face and this is not moral or political, I just...you know, maybe the face is still down there, getting ready to haunt the shit out of me." :lol:

That sounds exactly like something I'd say, lol. Trust me I'm dealing with pretty much the same. I'm 4 days out of surgery and can't stand the shakes. I have tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which tastes like Injury :P and the Bariatric (Dis)Advantage powders. They were all awful to me. However, I know the importance of Protein in order for this surgery to be successful and to keep my muscles from poofing. I went to GNC and got unflavored whey Protein isolate powder. I have become a master at mixing it into everything. I prefer drinking drinks like Vitamin Water Zero , Crystal Light, Mio, Arizona Caffeine Free Diet Green Tea, etc.. So I just put a little in so I can get about 15 grams of protein in each drink and I switch them up so I don't get bored. I don't load a lot into the drinks because I don't want them to be thick. I just drink more which is no problem because I need to stay hydrated anyways. This also helps me because I'm lactose intolerant. We won't even go there. :blink:

My surgeon is dead set on minimum 60 grams of protein a day. I heard "Protein Protein Protein " so much prior to surgery that I went to call my Propane company to pay my bill and the receptionist asked "How may I help you?" and I said "I need to pay my Protein bill" instead of Propane. <_<

I've been making Jello, pudding, and yogurt and mixing the unflavored in it too, works for me. I think it will be better when I get into the "mashed" food stage. Protein is important for the success of this surgery, your health, and the weight you'll lose. You just have to experiment and I think in time you'll find something that will work for you. I thought that lactose intolerant peeps can't drink the whey protein since that is a milk derivative?

I am petrified about this, worried I wont find anything that works for me... yipes. I have thirteen samples sitting here waiting for me to sample them and I also know that after my surgery they will probably all taste different...

I have been trying soooo hard to get my Protein in. I love eating protein bc I love chicken, seafood, steak, Beans, (YOU NAME IT)! However, I can barely eat a 1/2 can of tuna at a time if that much, not even a half of a 5 oz tilapia fillet, nor a half of a small order of pintos and cheese. My restriction is really restricted with the thicker foods. I tolerate them just fine as long as they aren't spicy (get severe heartburn/nausea), but I can't eat enough of them. I have tried tons of protein powders and wasted so much money because I start gagging on them too and almost barf up my tiny amount of food.....so NO CAN DO! And I have honestly been trying all flavors, flavorless, Isopure is like Isopuke! (in my opinion). I am even disgusted with the ready made shakes in the cans. I wish that they made a protein pill!!!!I I have been taking Vitamins and Biotin to try to help keep my hair and skin healthier while going through this. Oh and I also tried hiding the Protein Powder in various foods and Soups etc. and still can't choke it down! It is by far one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted and it has such a strong taste at that. The only think I have been able to stomach is Special K's Protein Bars but they only have 10 grams per bar and it takes me a long time to eat a full bar, so it doesn't help too much. Once I am able to eat more, I won't have a problem at all getting protein in because fortunately I love chicken and fish and seafood like I stated earlier. So, hopefully I will be able to eat more before it starts to really effect me being that right now I am only 3 weeks post op. Good luck to you with your struggle and rest assured you aren't the only one going through this!

I am so sick of Protein, yesterday I went on strike. I just couldn't bear the thought of drinking or eating any form of protein, or anything else for that matter. I know it is bad, so I started early today and am very un-happily and slowly, because I guess it is my punishment, drinking 60 of my 76 required g of protein. I can't physically eat enough yet to meet the protein goals so I'm drinking my protein like medicine. Yuck Yuck Yuck. It is such a catch 22. I love that I have lost a lot of weight so far but omg I so wish it was ok to just drink Water and take Vitamins. I'd be great then.

You know at three weeks out there is NO way you could or should eat a half a cup of dense food. You don't need to feel strange about that! liquids and mush at three weeks are about it. maybe shoot for 2-2 1/2 oz or 1/8-1/4 cup of stuff at a sitting. Take it slow, sit up straight (no one ever said that to me, but it can really help me to get my food down), I used to tap on my chest after a bite, and this helped it go down past the air too. It will get easier.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
