I'm pretty sure the gas is from the fact that with laproscopic surgery they pump you totally full with air so that they can see what they're doing in there. It doesn't matter what you eat, they give you the 'gas' when you're under, expanding your abdominal cavity with it. It then makes its way out of the body the way nature intended...

Well, I was banded on 6/22 and feel great except for this alien that I am positive they implanted into my stomach! I feel like I'm pregnant with the added bonus of remembering how it felt when my dear little one would shove her foot up into my ribs! (I knew the pain felt vaguely familiar). I have been taking every gas relief known to man and still no relief. I have been walking 30 mins a day and last night it was so hard because the gas nearly had me doubled over. It does seem to get better when I rest in bed, but unfortunately it gets worse as the day goes on sitting at my desk.

I'm tempted to open one of the incisions and let it all out except I'm afraid of flying around the room like a deflated balloon! Ahhh, that does sound pretty good right now!

BTW, my DH calls them 'barking spiders' when there's a little toot! Boy, I do wish I could let go like he can!!!

Thanks for listening. Any other ideas for getting this tummy to pop???

Terri, Bless your heart. I know the feeling. The only thing that helped me was extra strenght gas relief and acid Malox. Can't hurt to try it. Good luck to you.:)

Thanks Sallyjo! I really do feel exceptionally well otherwise although I haven't even wanted to get on the scale yet to see how I'm doing since I "feel" as big as a house right now. I will say, I put on some capris this morning that were tight and they feel comfortable for a change!

I cried last night because I felt like I looked awful. I had a roll around the lower part of my belly before the surgery and now I have a new one around the top part of the belly. Add my chest and I'm feeling like I look exactly like the Michelin Man! My poor DH doesn't know what to do with me!! I keep hoping each new day brings a little less spare tire!!

I was on a very light diet for the week before my surgery and liquids the entire day before. My gas was terrible! I couldn't even enjoy Mexico with my DH. The flight home took care of most of it though. I bet I could've help that plane stay in the air!:phanvan Just a little since touch down in Chicago on the 28th!

We went to the Texas Roadhouse the night we left town to go to MX, I had steak, salad, and green Beans, I tried to stay away from the carbs. I had no gas pain what so ever.

Good Luck in your surgery, it will be wonderful!!

I had all liquids the day before surgery, my last meal was chicken Fettucine Alfredo, salad and bread at Italliana's in Monterrey on Sunday. Surgery was on Tuesday. I have had terrible gas to the point of nausea! When it comes I head for the toilet, trash can or whatever I can find. Thankfully, nothing has ever come up, but the symptoms are very convincing! Once I am certain that I am not going to explode I go get in a most lady-like position on the couch or bed with my butt pointed straight up in the air. I stay there until I sense that I am ready to burp and up comes either one enormous burp or a series of burps and the nausea is gone until the next buildup of gas. Oh I do hope this is gone soon. I am afraid to leave the house. It is getting better. Yesterday the only way to relieve any pressure and nausea was a swig of Maalox. Yuck... I kept a white ring of chalk around my lips on the flight home yesterday.

I feel so feminine...oh well I have lost 7lbs since my surgery on Tuesday!

7lbs in 4 days..I am truly amazed!:clap2:

the gas is normal with every abdominal surgery.... I don't think it has ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU EAT!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
