hello moon goddess.

Sorry i don't know anything about them but i'd be willing to look for stuff online and send you what i find.

I'm in San Antonio TX. I'm having my surgery with the New Dimensions Clinic. I have my surgery on the 5th. There are alot of drs there to chose from. But i think i've heard a little about southwestbariatrics. I'll keep my ears and eyes open and let you know if i find out anything.

Good luck with the whole process.

I'm here if you want to talk to anyone close by.

I've also started the process with Southwest Bariatrics. Dr. Marquez is my surgeon. However, she's only done about 50 or so bands. You might want to call to find out how many bands the surgeon you select has done to ensure you're comfortable with him/her.

I attended a couple of seminars given by two different surgeons, then I chose Dr. Marquez. There are 11 surgeons in the group to choose from and you can read their bios on their website: http://www.swbariatricsurgeons.com/. You can also go out to www.obesityhelp.com and read what their patients have to say about their experiences with a particular surgeon, the staff, and the hospital.

Randi~

Do you know how they assign you surgeon to you? Is it just random or can you pick the one that you want?

July5,

I'm also in San Antonio. I started off with New Dimensions, but they're out of Network for me. Who did you decide to go with for your surgery in that group and how did you go about choosing your doc?

hey Randi.

When i first went to the seminar they were not in my network. They recently became in network with United Healthcare, that's who i'm with. It took awhile for the whole process. About 2 1/2 months.

I chose the doctor i felt most comfortable with. Dr. Seger is the one i chose. He's easy for me to talk to and he's very straight forward with all of his answers.

I'll be sure to keep everyone updated about my whole process. I have only Today and 3 more days till my surgery date. I get more and more nervous everyday.

July5,

I think Dr. Seger was the surgeon I met at the seminar I attended last year. If it's the same person, he was brand new to the group last June. Do you know the total number of lapbands surgeries he's performed since joining the group?

Hello Randi, I did my banding recently with the Wish center my Dr and hospital staff were wonderful, I woke up with no pain, never took pain medication, I am an RN, and I think he did a good job the scars are so small to non-existance, except obviously the port one, but so far so good...:clap2: GOOD LUCK

Freebekie,

The Wish Center is also out of network for me. However, the surgeon -- Rajashiwala is in network. I haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Hey Randi.

Dr Seger is still the new guy there. but he has been a general surgeon for awhile now.

I just felt comfortable with him.

As far as the dr being in network but the clinic not. That is a hard one to figure out. I had the same experience.

Usually the reason is the doctor is not only a lap band surgeon but also a general surgeon. He's in network if you need general surgery but as far as the lapband he is not contracted with the insurance company to do that.

The insurance companies really aren't that much help. If you call the clinics they usually know or can find out.

The surgeon will also have a tax id number for general surgery and another for the lap band.

You can get the lap band tax id number then check with the insurance company.

Following is an email I received from a facility in San Antonio. I don't know anything about them, but thought I would pass it on since Austin isn't "too far" form San Antonio.

EMAIL: Please feel free to call us here in the San Antonio, Texas clinic toll free at 1-888-870-9474 ext. 103 at any time to schedule your appointment or to get specific information about our program.

At this time the WISH San Antonio, Texas office is having a LAP BAND special of $10,700.00 dollars for cash or financed patients which includes a temporary reduction of $250.00 off the first visit pricing. Of course, this price is also available for those who do not have insurance or for those whose insurance will not cover this procedure. The pricing for Open Gastric Bypass is currently $20,800.00 which includes the $250.00 discount off the first visit pricing. This special pricing includes the first appointment, pre-operative appointment, WISH surgeon and assistant surgeon fees, one night hospital stay, anesthesiologist, 2-week after surgery appointment, 3-month after surgery appointment, 6 month after surgery appointment and 1 year after surgery appointment. For Lap Band patients the pricing does not include the lap adjustments. The first lap adjustment is usually about 6 weeks after surgery and is at a cost of $105.00. Please be aware that pricing is subject to change without notice.

Your first appointment can last anywhere from 4-6 hours as it is a very thorough appointment with some testing being completed. Once you complete your 1st appointment you will be required to work on some goals over the next 6-8 weeks (this can vary by patient). When you complete your 1st appointment we will also schedule your pre-operative appointment (6-8 weeks out) and if you are an out-of-state or out-of-town patient, in most cases we will also schedule your surgery for the day after your pre-operative appointment.

Do you have a count on the number of lapband surgeries he's performed? I researched him on OH, but he was only listed for RNY procedures and had no lapbands to his credit. But, the site is probably not as up-to-date as it could be.

no Randi i don't know the exact number of lapband procedures that he has done.

He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, Bexar County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

He's only been with the clinic for about a year. But his past experiences are in laproscopic procedures. He is known for being able to perform procedures with little or no invasive incisions. I felt he would provide me with the best experience and an easier healing period.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
