BMI Calculator

Recommended Posts

I really didn't know where else to put this, so I figured this could be classified in the "Fitness" section. I found a website that measures a great deal many things, more than just the classic BMI. It measures fat percent, Waist/Hip ratios, differences for men and women, and much much more. Here is how I measured up.

My current BMI is 34.12 - which falls into the Obese 1 Category.. yay!! Ready to move into just the Overweight soon. :)

My BMR measured at 1,710.89 - however since I've been on very low cals for at least 6 months now, this maybe true or I would guess it's less than that.

My Body Fat% came out to 31.18. I was really shocked to see this!!!! It makes me fall under borderline NORMAL and obese!!! I knew I was thinner than my weight let on. My physical fitness really REALLY helps with this.

Here's the best one:

My Waist to Hip Ratio is 0.74 - this is absolutely without a doubt the most awesome result!!! For a Female, 0.8 or less is considered Low Risk!!! Yay me!!! LOL :D

Anyway if you'd like to take a look at it, here's the website:

These bodyfat measures are BS. I've got cuts everywhere save for my glutes and inner thighs and it's giving me 32%. I'd estimate my bodyfat to be around 20%, and the bulk of it being around my ass. A similar type of calculator once told me I was 32% at 170 lbs, and I've definitely got more muscle mass now than I did back then - AND I'm 30 lbs lighter.

Irene, can you explain the BMR a little? When I put my stats in it said that my BMR was 1879. Am i understanding this to be the number of calories i would burn if i did absolutely nothing but stay in bed all day? If this is the case, and I am only eating 800 calories or less, shouldn't i be losing at a much faster rate? See my confusion? Any help in understanding is much appreciated!!

Thanks!

To calculate how many calories you should be consuming in a day you need to multiply your BMR by 1,5 or other depending on your levels of activity. To lose weight, in theory you need to consume around 500 calories less than your daily requirement and again, in theory no less than 1200 cal/day to do it healthily. Having said that us sleevers don't really count as normal dieters. So each of us on a diet of around 800cal/day lose weight at different rates. So yep, confusing, and it's a bit more complicated than calories in/calories out, at least in my opinion

I have a hard time with these type of measures as well. I'm 5'6", weigh between 123-128 & was given a Body Fat of 32.48%. That puts me back in obese & wearing a 4 (vanity sized or not), there is no way that I am still obese.

I take these as guidelines ... guidelines that require some common sense.

I need to find a tape measure so I can do my body fat! I'd be interested to see what mine is!

Just last week I went from being obese to Overweight! It was a GREAT feeling!!!

I can't really disagree with my results. My classic BMI is in the obese category nearly midway. According to my measurements I'm on borderline Obese and Acceptable. I am also classifed at anywhere from 20-30 Lbs heavier than others who are my height and wear my size.

Everyone's different that's for sure! The only way to get the most accurate rating is to go get one of those body density tests... but it's fun to see anyway! I think mine is spot on. :)

I'm thinking of getting mine measured just for kicks, we have a Bod Pod at our university, which is the gold standard for bodyfat measurements. But I have no idea how/where to actually book the thing - and whether it's reasonably priced! If it's like $300, I'm definitely NOT gonna bother.

Once I hit goal I'm going to go get one of those "Bod Pod" tests too. I have no idea either where to find one. I guess a fitness club might know but since I don't belong to any I haven't thought about asking. I do plan to sign up for one and get a personal trainer once I get to within 25 lbs of goal, because I know I'll have to start working a lot harder to get there.

I will be interested to know my exact Body Fat %, so I'll then consider losing more or just maintaining.

I've used several of the hand-held calculators that somehow test it. I've been around 24-26. I like that much better than 32+. YIKES!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
