I'm just curious what type of cardio everyone is doing and what you feel yields the best results? It seems like I have read somewhere that walking is the best for fat loss. I have an elliptical machine but I also enjoy doing the "Walk Away the Pounds" series. So I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are and why. I feel like walking is great for fat loss, but will using an elliptical trainer yield fat loss and muscle gain? Therefore, not giving the best numbers on the scale, but maybe giving better results from an inches lost prospective. I think as we are losing weight it's important to retain as much muscle tone as we can. It's very easy to lose muscle as we lose fat. Looking for more opinions out there!

You'll burn more calories on the elliptical, plus you can make it quite challenging if you change the incline and resistance. So I think for the same amount of time, the elliptical will yield better results. But in the end, it comes down to whatever you are more likely to do - if you dislike the elliptical, you'll probably spend less time on it.

To be honest, I would choose the elliptical (and usually do) - but mostly because it challenges me more and makes me fitter. The more my heart rate gets up and I sweat, the more I am training my heart and lungs, and improving my cardiovascular health. The fact that it is also making my weight melt away (11 lbs last month) is a bonus.

Walking is proven great, and anything is better than nothing. Do what you will continue to do long-term.

Variety is the spice of life. I'm doing a combination of walking, walking away the pounds videos, recumbent stationary bike and elliptical. The elliptical is new for me and it's going to take some getting used to. The first time I did the elliptical I was only able to do 12 minutes and I paid for it with sore legs for the following 3 days.

Running with a little walking here and there!!! I do this at least 3 days a week and the other days do the elliptical or bike!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
