Hi all,

Well i am 4 weeks today until surgery and the wierd/scary dreams have started. I always have pretty random, out there dreams but now they are all about the operation.

Here is a selection: I get opened up then the doctor says there is something wrong with my stomach so no sleeve. I am left with huge scars. When i get to Mexico to hospital is actually just a motel room that looks filthy.

Did this happen to anyone else? They are making me feel pretty nervous :(

I had one last night that startled me awake. Someone told a friend of mine that I had died, and she replied "in surgery, right? Well, I tried to tell her!" in such a cold tone, or at least that's all I remember of it. I know it's our anxiety playing havoc, but it doesn't make it any less disturbing.

No weird dreams before hand for me, but after thats another story. I have been having the weirdest food dreams. I think its my fears playing out in my dreams. As they always entail me eating something that I shouldn't. Hope the dreams start to get better for you. I know mine are.

Last night I dreamed that I was at the hospital waiting for my surgery and the nurse came out and told me my daughter was done her surgery. My daughter is 13 years old 120lbs and wears a size 2!! I woke up in a panic. I think minds don't actually sleep when we do. Its just our natural but irrational fears playing out when we sleep. I hadn't realized I was troubled about what effect me having this surgery could have on my daughter and how she views body image but I guess I am. I haven't told her and I don't yet know If I will. If I do I will certainly explain that I am doing this for my health and for my ability to do things I can't do now, not for the way someone looks at me.

Funny you bring this up...probably several of us waiting for surgery are playing out our fears in our dreams. Last week I dreamed I was scrubbed in for a surgery (I am a registered nurse but I don't work in the OR) and the doctor who was already gowned and gloved touched a non-sterile container. I was anxious and told her that she had broken sterile and wouldn't she like to re-scrub? She was very casual and assured me that it didn't matter that the container was probably clean enough. I recalled feeling sweaty and panicked and was trying to figure out how to stop her from touching the patient with her now non-sterile hands... I woke up after that and told my husband how odd I thought the dream was since I don't work in that type of environment or even in the hospital anymore. He pointed out (duh) that I am just anxious about my own surgery and I am sure he is correct.

My CPAP pressure is finally right so I've been having awesome dreams. Last night I dreamed my surgeon was playing golf through the hospital as he was showing me around. He really needs to work on his putting. LOL!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
